‘Head in the sand’: ABC responds to criticism of Alice Springs reporting

Tired of soaring violence, robberies and street crimes, thousands of residents in Alice Springs recently held a meeting to discuss next steps, Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton says.
“So, what was the ABC's take on this?” Mr Houghton said.
The national broadcaster faced criticism for its coverage of the event after interviewing a series of people who voiced their discontent at the meeting, including one woman who called the event a “white supremacist fest” with a “scary” vibe.
“By not challenging those making assertions of white supremacy, the ABC effectively fell in with the narrative,” Mr Houghton said.
Mr Houghton said the ABC’s response to the criticism was “no surprise”.
“Head in the sand, and completely ignoring the disregard for the ABC's editorial policies which require that presenters, ‘present a diversity of perspectives so that, over time, no significant strand of thought or belief within the community is knowingly excluded or disproportionately represented’."

I absolutely agree as someone who arrived in Australia in 1994. I have seen Australia go from being an open vibrant society to one that is fragmented and two-tier split set-up. It pays in this present social climate, to blame one section for every ill and for one's personal failings, no one and not a single person migrates to this land, for the indigenous culture. Panelists on ABC like Waleed Aly, are primarily responsible for the divisions our society currently faces!

There is a solution for all offenders in Australia which all Government Parties need to agree on. After 5 separate convictions, irrespective of age, sex, ethnicity or offence, offenders are given a dire warning. "If your total number of convictions get up to 10 in the next two years, you will be eliminated from society, for at least the next ten years with no remission.

Make it three convictions. You have to keep in mind that the NT decriminalised youth crime to some extent, now they are paying the price. If that is to work in any successful manner, they need to likewise decriminalise protection of property and remove the concept of 'proportionate force' from self defence laws, and at the bare minimum decriminalise dog attacks on your own property.

Interesting response from the abc, a few years ago when the abc ran a story on crime in Dubbo similar to Alice Springs I complained about the way the abc portrayed the hopelessness of aboriginal youth and their moral obligations to kids in the community to give them hope not make them feel like they have no future, abc responded with its called sensationalism and gives the story an emotional edge, I responded back that is ridiculous if I was an aboriginal Australian child living in Dubbo and watch your program I would think what is the point of trying to better myself no response, they must have been hammered with complaints as not long after the abc stopped receiving complaints
