Pure joy to see the kindness in Barry's eyes when he is conveying his wise words about what can be achieved with kindness and patience. That dear little pony is 'putty in his hands' and no wonder he knows after kind, constant and lengthy work from Barry means that he no longer needs to feel the fear.

Fantastic Advice for All Horses!! Especially, if we are getting frustrated or angry at our Horses to Walk Away rather than Lose our Temper!! For me, I am patient with children and animals.... But, Adult humans have the ability to get a few choice words and a lot of swearing!! Thank you for sharing this sound advice about rescue horses!!❤

As always Barry....spot on!! A lot of horses are ruined by people simply not spending enough time with them, having patience...and treating them with kindness....a bit of 'TPK' ...TIME, PATIENCE, KINDNESS....! And of course Respect...so 'TPKR' ...X

Thank you Barry for this wisdom. Too true. We want to say “ WHY” and never get around to the “HOW“’ to set it right. You took a lickin and kept on. Please be careful as who knows which one will be the final blow. When dealing with unhandled mustangs we use an apparatus- a stick- to make those first touches, when its Unknown how the horse will react. Safety first, as we want to live another day to help more horses and ponies. Eternally great full for your perspective and generosity. ❤️

I would have loved to see him at his worst, so that we could see how he was gradually brought to this level of acceptance. Thanks Barry.

Great advice as always! I taught my mare to touch my palm with her nose first with patience and treat rewards. Then taught her to kiss. Head shyness cured! But every once it a while she gets a little too excited and bops me in the nose. Honestly, worth it though.

I had a Shetland on a city lot in Dallas Texas in 1968 lol. She bit me on the arse just as my brother took a pic. She was mean, we didn't hurt her she was just cantankerous. We heard later they tend to be like that.

No, Shetlands 'tend to be' exactly what they are taught to be _by_ humans, or what they learn _from_ humans - you know, us (supposedly) large brained ones ... It is our responsibility to calmly and patiently teach them the _right_ way to behave, and to investigate reasons why they might not. I am sure that you didn't (at least, knowingly) hurt the pony - but there had to have been some reason - past or (then) present - for her unwanted behaviour.

A case of poll evil that was badly mishandled? 🤔 In any case, he still needs to accept handling for his own good.

Thank you for this video on this topic. I learned a lot from it. What was wrong with his skin?

Probably just a bit dry and waxy from being under a head collar and lack of grooming after getting sweaty.
