One correction on the slim 7i. It’s 16gb soldered and one empty slot. So you can add a 16 gig stick and make it 32gb

speaking of performance, the legion pro 7i comes to its own once you go to at least 4080, the graphics and 3d performance is much faster than 4070 which the slim 7i goes up to, this will make the laptop becoming really close to scar 17, especially if you choose the 4090 configuration which I have since i have to run multiple vms and a game at once, eating a huge chunk of vram

I would choose a laptop with Network port RJ45 , wired is much more stable than WIFI. The SLIM variant does not have this port, you can work with a separate USB adapter to still be able to work wired, but then you have one free USB port less. It's just where your preference lies. I am now especially looking forward to the Release of the Legion pro 7 16'' Gen 8 AMD this according to the Lenovo site will be available soon.

please review the AMD version of the slim 7!! If you have the time and energy ofc, but I think it's an incredible value proposition. I got it for 1300usd with 32gb ram, 3.2k screen, 4060 and 7840hs. The premium quality is insane for that price

Had 3 Pro 7i's come with defective keyboards in a row so I returned for a refund after 3 months of waiting (One month between them) and the Slim 7 came with damage out of the box (Superficial damage, but they said that the back panel was a Technician only replaceable part and refused to send the damaged part for me to replace, so they're also doing a machine for machine swap this time too, but the machine works just fine so I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about the quality control of Lenovo nowadays) But from what use I've been able to get out of the Slim 7i I've been pleased. if the replacement comes with no damage, then I'll be happy, after 5 months of waiting.

Slim 7i has 16gb soldered. Put a 16 and you will go up to 32, not 24. In fact, that is what you wanna do to take advantage of the quad-channel.

I just ordered the slim 7i because it seemed like a nicer laptop to look live with and really not many applications need all the CPU cores for me since things like 3D rendering I will do on the GPU. I am really excited since i got a great offer on it too. (Maybe fluid simulation times will be the only compromise)

I understand your channel is more focusing on productivity software, and dont show/do gaming benchmarks. But could you perhaps add a clear GPU benchmark like 3Dmark timespy or similar. Most tests feel CPU bound. Keep it up, solid content as always.

Pro has a plastic deck, not aluminum. Slim has 16Gb soldered, with another 16 max optionally. Gaming laptops without gaming benchmarks... Temperature readings? these are basic things that need to be in reviews like this when it comes to computational tasks.

Hi Ben. I bought the Slim version a few days ago, and I was pleasantly surprised that it is possible to upgrade the ram to 48 gb. i bought a crucial ddr5 32gb 5200 and it works perfectly!

If you don't need extra RAM then a 16GB kit would actually be better performance. SODIMM DDR5 runs in dual channel per stick so 16GB stick would enable quad channel RAM, where as the 32GB kit or mismatched kits limits it to dual channel.

IT, s not worth it to uprade it bruh -_-, dual channel RAM would run when the capacity of both rams are the same, if you upgrade it, it would decrease the speed of your laptop. 32 GB is more than enough, no need to upgrade it.

Thank you for your reviews. Your reviews have made my decision making simple. I decided to order Slim 7i over Pro 7i because it is more premium and slim. I like the 100% P3 3200x2000 screen. since I will be editing video and photos, Albeit 4070 8GB VRAM instead of 4080 12GB. How I wish it was at least 12GB. The plastic bottom cover being one of the deciding factor. However, if Lenovo has not upgraded the soldered RAM to 16GB from 8GB, i would not have considered. The only thing I would miss is the RJ45 LAN port . If my work demand more capable GPU in the future, I would invest in next Gen Desktop instead.

I am going absolutely bonkers trying to get the right Legion laptop! The ports and features of last year beat the 2023 versions but the new ones have better cpus and ddr5 etc. Never mind the waiting if I order from Lenovo, who state the gen 7 versions are 'available soon". I want to have at least 1 thunderbolt port and I suppose the fingerprint reader, and 500 nits with the 240 hz refresh, and better cpu but won't get a thunderbolt port if I get the 5i. I can't afford the 7i, the old one MAYBE when it is available, but the slim 7i of this year is limited in upgradability if I want dual channeling. I can go on and on about the features and specs and pricing. I will be doing art and cgi moreso than gaming, but the lenovo workstation laptops are costly and have crappy gpus... Like I said, "bonkers"! If I pull the pin on a 2023 slim 7i RIGHT NOW, I have to wait until mid October (2023) before I even get it, IF it arrives on time or all all. What do I do!?! OK, I'll stop ranting, haha.

Don't buy Legion Slim 7i. It supports only windows 11. Bl0S is very bad, lot of options are missing. Machine gives lot of heat. Touchpad Settings disappears. I bought one and regret for that. Please don't go for this.

I have slim 7 from 2021 and there is very little flex in it compared to the new models ... also the touchpad is glass which is excellent ( heard the new 7 models do not have glass touchpad) , does not overheat as much as my macbook pro. The newer models have much more flex.... still better than the awful hinges from 2020 model. I love my premium 7 model from 2021 but it came without hdmi built in . I have a dongle though. I baby it. I still love my love thinkpad t420s from 2011! Most durable laptop ever and the best keyboard.
