The way that you combine teaching and care is very well done. You seem really well versed in making a different procedure where the patient is vulnerable to feel reassured. Those Atlas adjustments are quite intense and should be done with proper assessments like you have. Great work :)

Research atlas and Dr. Sweat. It absolutely works, with the least amount of force. It’s proven and fda approved and I’ve had it done and it’s amazing! Don’t believe the nay sayers and I’d suggest seeing an orthongal atlas doctor, this doctor manipulates the bones with pop and crack and a traditional orthongal doctor does not. And lemme tell you, there is No pain or cracking with an activator adjustment and it’s done and it works! Bones do not require a lot of force to move. Please, please research for yourself. I have an 18 year injury from a horse riding accident. I should have went to a chiro right away, but I didn't and I've let it go until I just couldn't anymore. I had headaches every day, neck stiffness and soreness. I couldn't sleep because my neck never felt comfortable or relaxed. After my second adjustment, I was able to sleep again. Hmm if you aren't improving after that time I would seek out an atlas orthogonal doctor I have held and healed much better now then my NUCCA person before who did hand adjustments.Your guy does check your neck for inflammation which NUCCA never did for me only leg checks so that's a good sign. Have you had any experience with patients who have Chiari Malformation? I can’t take the headaches and other symptoms but all the doctors want me to do is take ibuprofen and pain management….. I cannot continue to take Ibuprofen 800 mg for the rest of my life without damaging my stomach.. I also cannot do surgery as it’s too risky. So I’m left to deal with the headaches. I get a ton of pain in the neck and upper back area. Even at the base of skull on the occiput. Can chiropractic care help with Chiari?
@PortlandChiropractor
@PortlandChiropractor 2 жыл бұрын
Atlas orthogonal has been shown to temporarily reduce a Chiari by 2.5 mm. It is enough to get relief from headaches and pressure. The benefits are short-lived (in my experience between a week and a month) but the relief is often worth it. The adjustment doesn't "cure" the chiari, but defintely can help manage the pain. ONLY see a trained upper cervical chiropractor though.

There is a well known Houston chiropractor who claims he gives atlas adjustments as part of his treatment. It involves standing behind the patient with what appears to be a simple impulse gun which is supposed to deliver the adjustment. But in your application, you use what appears to be a costly instrument which is carefully targeted to the desired area. For the layman, your approach appears to be delivered in a much more deliberate and precise way. My question to you sir, is why the chiropractic profession tolerates such widely different standards of care? One approach seems hasty and reckless and the other thoughtful and exacting.

My Atlas is tilted and I've been seeing a regular chiro here in Houston. Not an upper cervical one. I"m sorry but the quick twist of my head feels too aggressive for me. And no warming up the muscles beforehand. I end up coming out worse than when I went in. Also I keep reading that if the Atlas is out it can misalign the whole body. Doc doesn't use a scale on my shoulders but I know one is a little higher than the other. My T3 and T11 go out..sometimes T4 and 5. One leg longer than the other. He adjusts those first then does my Atlas. by the next day, my whole back is tight again and my right neck muscles hurt due to his jerking my head. I'm so done. Seeking out another chiropractor who has a more gentle approach. Hope to brave the only Nucca doc here in Houston at some point....I'm afraid tho it will be costly. I have serious TMJ issues as well but addressing that with an LVI dentist. I had a whiplash years ago that no doctor ever addressed...just wanted to put me on meds.

@@mnr646 yes, I have heard of this and have questioned my Nucca chiro on it in regards to the ligaments. I no longer know who to trust or believe. I can tell you this much. I have a bad TMJ disorder due to retruded jaws and found out I have a narrow airway and my tongue posture is very poor. Poor tongue posture can throw off your whole spine. I'm having TMJ treatment through LVI Dentisty and many say their Atlas stays aligned once they address their jaws and bite. I've read it over and over from many. And only pray that once I'm further in treatment with LVI that this will happen. The Nucca approach is gentle but I can see where any manipulation might not work in some cases. I know of one lady who had to do Prolotherapy which helped but she didn't get true stability till she was further into LVI treatment. LVI treatment is a long journey but I think it's the answer for me. EMGs from the Nucca chiro show improvement but it's only been 2 months. One thing I know for sure is that massages of any kind have never worked for me and my Nucca chiro has been the only chiro to tell me massage can make it worse. Some in my TMJ LVI FB group have tried dry needling to some relief...others not. I just have to trust the process I'm in right now and pray it works. I did have some trauma in the past so that has to be considered as well. I just know of too many success cases with either Nucca or AO chiros so I pray it works for me. Thanks for the information and I will consider it in my future if need be.

@@shilk4301 Well usually my jaw pain goes away if I have any and my quick dizzy spells go away as well. I get tinnitus on/off as well but it's very mild. My Nucca doesn't even touch my neck after he adjusts me...he just puts me on a scale to weigh both my legs and he puts a level on top of my shoulders and around my hip and if everything is lined up and the weight is more even then he considers it back in place. It's so weird cause I'm so used to other chiros at least moving my neck around and at least palpating the neck in all places to make sure I'm lined up...this Nucca doesn't do that. I worry about having too many adjustments when my muscles just take my Atlas out again due to weakened ligaments. You can also research Prolotherapy as well. You can look up the Cusack protocol as well. I belonged to a TMJ group and some on there were hypermobile. My worst symptoms are a very tight back trying to compensate I guess. In our condition I honestly don't know if a PT or a Nucca/Atlas Orthogonal chiro is the best choice. I would definitely try one tho and see what happens. I definitely don't have the dizzy spells anymore but it's taken a long time. Honestly tho I think all I need is a PT...she's very good and has been doing it for 30 years. It's so hard to figure out when you are hypermobile..I just don't know what's best for us. I also have bulging discs in my neck which my old chiropractor fixed by having me on a decompression machine for over a year...I haven't had that kinda neck pain I was having since doing that...it was pretty amazing. Best of luck to you. I wish there were simple answers for our condition.

So I just found out I have hypermobility with possible Ehlers Danlos syndrome. After being with an upper cervical chiro since August I just found this out last month. So I asked him if my Atlas will ever hold (cause it's certainly not holding) with this condition and he said no. so what am I to think about this!? If anything I think all these Atlas Adjustments have just weakened my ligaments even more. So I've moved on to a PT who does myofascial release around that area and works on my muscles and the Atlas gently goes back into place. But of course it comes right back out. But it's the most gentle approach anyone has ever used on me. So anyone who is hypermobile or EDS, reach out to me. Am I wasting my time? I was told by PT to strengthen my neck and back muscles so we are working on that. Taking tension off the muscles and placing them back onto the ligaments. Still not sure how this is gonna work.

But yes, she gives me relief by doing myofascial work on my neck. I'm doing sternum elevations right now. We just haven't progressed much due to the Pandemic. I hope to get back to her soon. I think some are pretty knowledgeable but others aren't so much. I saw a PT a few years ago who didn't didn't even mention hypermobility or Atlas issues. The sweet chiropractor on here answered my question about people like us and he's had some good results but took an annoyingly long time and he had to address the bite. What is next when the patient can not hold the adjustment to their C1? It will go into place but then the next day it is off again. Been at this for a while now....
@PortlandChiropractor
@PortlandChiropractor 3 жыл бұрын
When it's holding for a day or less, something is wrong. Either the x-ray calculations have changed, there has been a severe injury to the ligaments and muscles surrounding C0-C1-C2, or the muscular dynamics have changed. There should be some exercises being done throughout this whole process. I would start with a new AO calculation. If it didn't change how long atlas holds, I would consider wearing a soft cervical collar for a day after the adjustment. If that still isn't enough, I would consider referring out for PRP injections into the joints of C0-C1-C2. In Oregon, a MD or ND can do those.

After suffering from vestibular migraines and dizziness for months, I finally learned how AO could be beneficial. I have an appointment with one in my area, but I have my doubts and I’m afraid I’ll be lied to. I’ve had an MRI done of my neck. If there was a misalignment some where, surely the orthopaedic doctor would have said something...? I don’t have any medical training/ know how to read an x-ray. I’m scared of getting x rays and then being told I need to keep coming back for adjustments when really there’s nothing wrong with my atlas... I’ve been dealing with all sorts of odd symptoms for over a year now. Dizziness, headaches, vision issues, Tachycardia, imbalance, and the worst has been bad anxiety. I happen to try going to an upper cervical Chiropractor two days ago. It was just a consultation but he’s pretty sure I have a pretty decent misalignment which has been causing all the symptoms. I’ve been to every type of doctor besides a neurologist and all have shown through testing that I’m perfectly healthy. @@ScrapZero I had an Xray after my initial consultation then on the first actual visit he went over them with me and showed me how at only 20 years old I had lost all the curve in my neck. In addition I had forward head posture pushing my head about an inch out essentially adding 8lbs to the weight of my head. The X-ray also showed my atlas was basically jamming up into my skull cause a lot of issues. First adjustment was great, anxiety pretty much completely went away. Second one was good but I got sick, unrelated, and that has thrown me off a bit since. Going for my 4th adjustment on Friday. It is definitely helping but only so much since I had pretty crazy misalignment. I also haven’t been as conscious about correcting my posture since that first week which has also not helped. Chiro told me it will take about 4-6 weeks to start to get the curve back in my neck because it requires the soft tissue to change as well. I am noticing the improvements in terms of having less symptoms overall. The only thing that has neither improved/worsened has been my tinnitus but that may be unrelated. Chiro told me on the first appointment he’s pretty sure he can help lessen/rid about 90-95% of my symptoms.
