(Headcam View) Knife Defense Perspective

Your environment plays a huge factor in a street fight. Slipping, falling, tripping over things, it plays a big role in what could happen if you're against an attacker with a knife.
If a larger attacker is coming at you with a knife, you have to parry and move the leading arm out of the way. If you're able to run and get out of there, take it. This opportunity is a gift. However, if you're in a close core environment, it's much more difficult to escape from a larger attacker carrying a knife.
There is a way and strategy to get away from the knife: parry and run. Do not try to parry and then block the knife to fight off your attacker! This is too risky against someone who is much bigger than you.
Don't underestimate the big guy just because you might think he's slow. He might be just as fast as you, and combined with his size and strength, this could result in you not getting out alive.

What if he pushes you up against the wall and crushes you while stabbing you? or grabs you with the other hand and the starts stabbing you??? He's a big guy with a lot of power, what do you do in the first example I used?

The issue i see here is that 1)attacker is only thrusting and not putting much into it. If he were to thrust and move forward towards you.. this technique will be a different scenario. I don't think the attacker will be as compliant and stationary, or attack in one pattern. 2)putting your hands up like that may be smart against strikes. But against a knife it could be suicide against someone who knows what to do. You are leaving your wrist and forearm exposed to the blade. Cutting the inside of the wrist or forearm could leave you dead in minutes.

I think for the purposes of the video, it's simplified for a better visual explanation. The attacker will try to grab and stop your movement but that's actually harder than it seems when somebody keeps parrying and moving away, which is kind of the point. Test it yourself and see. In terms of damage to the wrists and hands, firstly, your fighting for your life, extremities are less important than the primary core, secondly, in a typical emotional stabbing attack, humans tend to repeatedly stab in arching trajectories towards the core. There's no fancy kali in play.

+DiyEcoProjects I used to have this same problem. Instinctively we all want to protect ourselves but I couldn't strike out, i'd freeze up. I overcame this only by real world experience. in life or death I couldn't freeze up. it took me having to defend against a knife and being stabbed to finally understand. just remember everyone gets scared and if you have froze up before don't worry about it because when you really, absolutely, need to strike out, you will. mental conditioning is the key. condition the mind and your body will follow.

Luckily something kicked in, I shouted and intimidated them... felt bad afterwards because i actually ment it. mate said, your not a bad person... you didnt hurt them or get in trouble, so success... this is all about your fight or flight, and deep down inside you - its not going to be you. felt better. just wanted to see what others felt about that "cant hit" moment. Nick, this big guy if in a real situation would be holding onto the victim THEN stabbing. Moose knows you are fast and he's been told to threaten with a knife. If Moose wanted to kill little old me he would easily stop me from being able to move and boom, stabbed and stabbed. I love the speed this camera captures. Is there a way to keep that camera rolling when you are having to deal with his weight and strength knowing that you'll be certainly skewered within an eye blink? I love this camera. Just being able to see the speed ole Moose is doing that looks slow from an objective point of view but blurs and is almost invisible when it is you that will be stabbed? All I can imagine is immediately lifting both feet to allow gravity to pull myself out of his grip and then rolling like my life depended on it. Love this perspective!!

I know this is situational, but in case I'm next to someone who's about to pull an AR out to wipe out everyone in the building, it'd be useful.
