As a little kid in the 80s I remember bands playing weird instruments like keytars and headless guitars. They pretty much all disappeared in the 90s, only to make a massive comeback decades later when Carvin changed to Kiesel. Now I'm nearly 50 and contemplating my first headless guitar :) Whether it's a simple longing for something that reminds me of childhood, or an innovation that needs to be experienced, I don't know. But I'm very happy to see these new designs inspire a new generation of guitarists, when quite honestly it looked like guitars were going to die with Gen X.

They are for when you are chilling out in your armchair with a wall to your left, if you are right handed. It saves digging holes in the plaster with your headstock.

Anecdotally speaking, they say young players such as small kids or adults with smaller hands can benefit greatly learning on a headless guitar, because they can just focus on learning and not having to tune guitar every 5 minutes. But at the end of the day. Nothing beats the look of a beautiful Schecter or Ibanez with a headstock. The looks and paint jobs of headstock guitars are far superior than what is offered on headless guitars... Regarding innovation, supposedly the guitar is dying, no guitar heroes out there in the music industry these days to motivate new people to pickup the guitar, as we had back in the 50's, 60's 70's and through the 80's/90's. Therefore guitar companies are hesitant to spend money on research and development.

The first headless guitar I've ever tried was a Steinberger in the 80's and I thought they were cool, but at that time I couldn't afford a normal guitar, never mind a headless Steinberger.

I know there's a ton of headless players with prestige nowadays, I just can't help but chuckle at hearing "Deftones, Slipknot, even DEAD BY APRIL, EVERYONE is playing them" lol one of those things is not like the others 😅 Never forget all time guitar legends like Jimmy Page, Slash, Plini, all the absolute icons

The exact transcript is “…Deftones having one. Slipknot’s bassit…Dead By April both guitarist and bassist are having headless…”. “Even Dead By April” was never said in this video. I gave examples of popular bands using headless guitars. This doesn’t mean we don’t like/ forgot about the ol school guitar legends. This video -as suggested by the title god forbid😂- is about headless electric guitars. Turns out Page, Slash, Plini, Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Van Helen and others don’t use them. It’s like talking about mma gloves, and someone comes and says “Never forget about boxing legends like Mike Tyson, Floyd and Canelo”. Yeah they also wore gloves. But turns out mma gloves are different to boxing gloves. No point talkings about ppl who don’t use mma gloves, in a discussion about mma gloves.

@@mr.sorenzo on the topic tho, I don't own a headless yet, kind of too milk toast to pull the trigger on one just yet but I was blown away by how much I like the strandbergs last time I went to NAMM, I welcome the headless overlords, def thinking about a headless for my next purchase just kinda waiting for the options to open up cuz I'm not a metal head

@@sonord2074 Yeah they are getting more and more popular. My main issue with Strandberg and Kiesel designs is that the tuning pegs hit your legs if you want to play seated classical style which is how I play when seated. No all headless ones have this issue though. Consider going to your guitar store and playing with on though. The Strandbergs are fun to play with.
