Headlight Repair - Sanding, Buffing... Both???

Mike and Yancy are back and will be getting to the bottom of headlight repair. Do you need to sand?? Can you just buff with a compound? The guys will answer this question and help you see the light… Pun intended!

After application how much time do you have before getting it into the sun?

$75-150 seems to be standard nowadays. Where would ceramic uv coating sit on that spectrum and if you’re a mobile service can you or should you charge over $150?

Can you use those sanding discs more than once for headlight restorations?

Yes - IF the headlights are not too bad. USUALLY if headlights are bad enough to sand they are pretty bad. In this situation, you can only get one or two headlights out of one disc. Keep this in mind if "charging" -Mike Phillips

Novice question... You said to use soapy water for the sanding. Does it matter what soap you use? Hand soap? Car soap? Whatever's around? Any recommendations?

Any soap is better than no soap.. But a car soap if you have it. Just literally use a few drops though.. don't go overboard.. I usually use Hyperwash or Reset just because that's what I have around most of the time, but I've used dish soap as well.

Doesn’t Mike know all modern headlight covers have a clear coat on them? Is it me or does he keep saying he’s polishing & sanding plastic? Your not. Your sanding and Polishing clear coat

It's a factory faded clear coat " like" on polycarbonate so he's right it's plastic.

sanding with 400 , 800 and 1200 and then mask off and ......... wait for it ...... CLEAR COAT 👍👍👍 you are welcome 🙂
