Headlight Replacement 2007-2009 Chrysler Aspen and 04-08 Durango

Great job of making this very easy and simple to do. I replaced the bulb on my wife's 2007 Dodge Durango about 4 years ago and I wish this video was available then. I replaced the bulb via the trap door area back then because I didn't know there was a 10mm nut that needed to come off the back side. Compounding that problem was the red grommet thing that was still on after removing the old bulb and you can add 20 minutes of cussing until the grommet happened to fall off by itself. That was torture. Without recording the video of me doing this today it took me 5 minutes. Mike, thank you. Great video and tutorial.

Why remove the housing when you can access the bulb through the wheel well?

Some of the directions I have seen show two nuts behind the access panel, but mine only had one, as in the video. You still have to pull HARD on the housing to get it out once all the nuts and bolts are loose because there is a ball and socket that holds the housing in place even when everything has been loosened.

FWIW... If you're only doing the headlight bulb, you can work through the little access flap under the fender. Then you don't need any tools, or even have to pop the hood. Takes about 3 minutes, if your hands are small enough.

thank you for posting this excellent video. I cannot believe the ridiculous design for changing a headlamp. you were lucky that the wheel cover vent was torn off. It scratched the s**t out of my hands maneuvering inside that small space, especially with the tire in place. I suspect someone tore it off out of sheer frustration. Thanks to you I am no longer a one light "padiddle"

Not really too bad. Just need a 10mm socket with a 6" extension and it's a piece of cake. The hard part was knowing where the hidden nut was. Thanks to the video for showing that.

I would have never guessed where to access the fenderwell bolt on my 2008 Aspen. I think i will replace all 3 on each side while i have them out. I also have some moisture beads in mine im concerned about. Also need to point them lower if possible. Always getting the hibeam flash from oncoming traffic.....? GREAT VIDEO !!! MANY THANKS!!!

Can't you replace the bulb through door in wheel well without removing the entire housing? I can see the bulb through the door in the video. Seems like that would be easier and possibly the whole reason the easy access door is there

Casey Smith you have to remove the housing, it is by design. If you could somehow remove the old bulb, it would be nearly impossible to put the new one in without touching anything. Any contaminants on the bulb, especially oil from your skin, will greatly reduce the life of the new bulbs.

Mike Wade I had a bulb go out last night which is why I watched your video. Today I bought a new bulb and used the access door method to replace it. It was hard to see what I was doing and the tight space made it difficult to maneuver but I was able to replace it in about 7 minutes using only a screwdriver to open the access door.

Can I put Aspen headlights and grill on Dodge Durango? Have a Durango but would like to add a few parts I see in the Aspen.

Jaime Gabriel Quiles the entire front end is different. I am sure it is possible, since the Durango and the Aspen share the same body, but you would be replacing -everything- from fenders, flares, hood, etc. And even then, the doors may not line up.

I was able to change the bulb on the Durango 2004 I had without removing the headlight. Does not work on my Aspen 2007 though

I also have an 07 Chrysler Aspen and the thing I couldn't do was take the whole housing unit off to change the bulb to I took the truck back to the dealer and had them change out the bulb for me !!!

You have to pull hard to remove the housing, straight out the front, even after everything is loose!

How do you replace the wire harness to the light bulb?

VL979 that I do not know. If you have damaged the harness somehow, it is probably incredibly easier (and cheaper) to splice new ends than it is to replace the entire harness. If you need to replace everything for some reason, I would suggest you take the new harness and use it as a guide to remove the old one, replacing everything as you go. That harness is likely integrated in to many things, so be ready for a lot of disassembly.

Did you know you couldve changed the bulb under the wheel well where yours was broken at🤦🏿 Thats why cheysler/dodge made that entrance no need to remove the housing.
