Leo, as usual, your comparisons are expertly done. Both the Headrush and Ampero sound great. In a blind test, you probably can't tell the difference. I have the Ampero and I'm extremely happy with the Marshall, Friedman, SLO and Bogner sounds. They sound so real. Although the touch screen is a bit of a challenge, I generally edit my sounds on my PC. The lack of distortion on the Headrush is a worry. It's common for modelers to lack the full harmonic range of a tube so that the distortion level appears less. This is where the Ampero wins over the Headrush, the distortion on the Ampero is very convincing without having to employ overdrive pedals.

I have been using the Ampero straight into an FRFR or into a PA. And I have been extremely happy with it. Other musicians come up to talk to me about where I'm getting all that sound from. I use the Ampero dual footswitch and also have begun to use the external midi controller along with external expression pedals and find this to be a very powerful way of working. I've recently begun experimenting with the MX5, and find that I really like it's Rig/Scene/Variations concept as well as the setlist feature. This makes managing live performances very nice and easy. For now, I'm still using the Ampero but will probably play the MX5 out soon.

Wow! MUCH prefer the use of the pre-recorded input so testing is level. More hard work from you :) This was very cool as it shows how closely they match a real amplifier. I find the Ampero touch screen a bit too "fiddly" to use as it requires precise finger tip placement. This makes the computer app more essential. Don't want to have finger issues with the MX5 so I'm going with the Pedalboard for testing w/ 7" screen. One thing you did not touch on is patch management. Only Headrush has Setlist/Song list management. The others require you to move patches/rigs manually to set up a gig...which is a pain. For live players, managing the setlist is/can be a nightly occurrence. IF ANY other manufacturer had setlist/song list management, other than Headrush, I wouldn't be looking at Headrush. As for fidelity, drunk/stoned people can't tell the difference that we can so any option is more than good enough for bars :) Best Regards Sir and Thanks again! Bon Weekend!

I think it’s fair to review any pedals together that are still getting firmware updates like these 2. If one was “dead” and not receiving updates anymore then I would say it’s an unfair comparison but, even my HX Stomp is still getting updates and that’s a great example of how newer doesn’t necessarily mean better because now the HX has eight blocks instead of the six at launch.

Thank you Leo for another excellent video comparison and great opinion on how these amp models can and do affect recording. But what I would like to know is which ones are better for playing in a jam with your amp, be that a Boss katana or JC 120 or a cleaner tube amp like a fender or in my case a combo style Rivera. I was wondering if you ever play any R&B fun k maybe pop rock type stuff just to get an idea about it and if you could throw some jazz tunes in or fusion jazz that might be interesting as well to see how they compare with the amps. But in any event I believe that your video are quite valuable and insightful for looking at technology and how it affects what we do now. Thanks 👍🏾. Cj

Hi Carlton, thank you so much, I'm really super happy that you find my videos usefull!!! Your feedback is very important for me!!! As regards playing with your amp, if you need to use the 4 cable method (useful to put some effects like distortion before the pre amp and some other after the preamp: usually delay and reverb are after the amp distortion), the Ampero is limited non having and effect loop, otherwise, they are both a good option. I play some R&B and Pop Rock and even jazz. I have already done some videos playing jazz oriented tunes in my channel...maybe I will do more in the future. Thank you!!

The Ampero and the Ampero One as sleepers sound wise especially with quality IRs and being cheaper than the Headrush are probably better bang for the buck than just about anything out there. In fact , in the more sound section of this videos there are tests about the dynamic range management and the note envelop... I have compared the 2 at home since I recently bought an mx5 and I have Ampero since 2 years ago. My conclusion is that Mx5 has better effects and better dynamics than in the Ampero, I was surprised how well it cleans up saturation with just the volume pot. Reverbs and delays finally sound to me without the processed background that I sometimes heard in the Ampero. In addition, there is 3 GB of memory available to put IR, presets, rigs... you can organize the presets in different rigs in case you play in different bands or play different styles live. I also liked the possibility of mixing effects of the same type and calling one or the other in different scenes of the same preset. Even so, I miss the computer app and the 4 buttons of the Ampero.

Hi, the MX5 has one of the most powerful signal chain, even with parallel effects. As regards the computer app, I don't think that HeadRush will develop it, as they have never built a computer app neither for the Pedalboard or the Gigboard.... unfortunately. Thank you for your messages!

Scusate, io non riesco a trovare da nessuna parte la lista effettiva degli amp e degli effetti di entrambe le pedaliere. Qualcuno può aiutarmi? Grazie

...quality of the reverb,delay,compressor...general dinamic of the pedal etc
@LeoGibsonGtr3 жыл бұрын
Hi, the generic dynamic of the pedalboard, in my opinion, can be evaluated in the "more sound" section of the video, where I have done some dedicated tests. As regards the quality of effects, the risk is to introduce biased opinions: for the amp you have the reference amp, against which you can test the dynamic response, the note enveolope etc. but for the effects which is the reference? for instance which is the reference for a chorus? or a reverb? Nevertheless I'm trying to find out a way to check out the effects without introducing just biased opinions. Thank you for your message!

Sold the ampero because of the usb 2x2 and dislike the trebble I found harshy. Also it has a vol input you can adjust, but silly no way to see the level!

Ampero is quite warm and clean imo. I think you might probably missed out setting the output toggle switch and the global output mode. Never ever set to line mode unless you have an instrument with preamp

Hi, in the more sound section of the video I think that there are the answers to your questions, trying not to introduce biased opinions, but testing how the frequency response is managed, how the dynamic range is managed and how the note envelope is managed. Thank you for your message!

Great comparison. One thing you left out that’s really important to me is country of manufacture. The Ampero is apparently made in China. For me that’s a non-starter; I don’t care how good it is.
