November 29, 2024 Open Letter: Formal Request for Investigation into the Lavish Lifestyles of Accused Congressmen To the Honorable Office of the Ombudsman, This letter constitutes a formal request for a thorough and impartial investigation into the alleged lavish lifestyles of several Congressmen, as observed by their constituents and seemingly disproportionate to their declared salaries. These allegations, concerning Congressmen Abante, Chua, Quinto, Fernandez, Luistro, Romualdez, and others, raise serious concerns regarding potential violations of several Republic Acts, demanding immediate and decisive action. The observed discrepancies between the reported income of these officials and their extravagant lifestyles warrant a comprehensive investigation under the following laws: 1. Republic Act No. 6713 (Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees): This Act mandates public officials to lead modest lives and prohibits them from engaging in activities that could be perceived as conflicts of interest or abuse of authority. The alleged lavish lifestyles of these Congressmen may constitute a violation of this Act's provisions on honesty, integrity, and accountability. 2. Republic Act No. 3019 (Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act): If the investigation reveals that the Congressmen's lavish lifestyles are funded through illicit means, such as bribery, extortion, or misuse of public funds, this Act provides the legal framework for prosecuting them for graft and corruption. 3. Republic Act No. 1379 (Forfeiture of Unlawful Accumulations): This Act allows the government to seize any unlawfully acquired properties or assets. Should the investigation confirm that the Congressmen's wealth was obtained illegally, this Act should be invoked to recover such assets for the benefit of the Republic. Beyond these three primary laws, other applicable laws, including those related to money laundering and tax evasion, may also be relevant depending on the findings of the investigation. A detailed examination of their financial records, including bank accounts, real estate holdings, and other assets, is crucial to ascertain the source of their wealth and determine the extent of any potential violations. We request the Office of the Ombudsman to utilize its full investigative powers to uncover any evidence of wrongdoing. The citizens of the Republic deserve transparency and accountability from their elected officials. The allegations of lavish lifestyles, incompatible with their declared incomes, undermine public trust and erode faith in the integrity of our government. A swift, thorough, and transparent investigation is essential to restore public confidence and ensure that those found guilty are held accountable to the full extent of the law. Momey well spent sa impeachment process. Sara is not fit as VP. She cannot be a model for the Filipinos too. She is more of a headache to the country instead of helping ease the country’s problems. Philippines is well better off without a VP in the person Sara Duterte.
