Nice video Craig, very informative. I wish, I have watched this before taking all the rope out! I just bought a Djembe with ripped skin. I will get a host skin and do it myself. I liked your jig. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks. You can always rethread all the rope two thirds of the drum loosely while the skin soaks.

Cheers pal had fun putting this together. Realised not everyone has that rope pulling jig so will have to make another.

Very helpful. I've done it once before but this should save some of the work! The only thing that could be clarified a bit is the twist and tuck technique at the end but I should be ok as I have another djembe to do soon. Thanks

Pleased it will help. Twist and tuck I guess I should make a new video covering this but just use long nose pliers, make sure the excess skin is cut down to about an inch all round, start twisting and hold down your twist with you thumb before pulling the pliers out to grab a new bit of skin. Hope this helps. Patience too. I’m sure you’re aware of this if you’ve worked on djembes.

Hi Craig, my djbe skin is starting to tear 3cm, located between the top ring and the body ring, so not in the centre top of the head. Is there a way to stop it from tearing further?
@craigwinterburn
@craigwinterburn Жыл бұрын
Short answer is no. The only thing you can do odd a bigger piece of skin over the tear to try and make the skin last longer. If it’s torn there it won’t be long before it tears somewhere else.

Hi, where did you find your grey tool to tender rope ? Or how did you make it if it is a home made ? Thks
@craigwinterburn
@craigwinterburn 2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate it’s called a clamcleat. It’s a sailing tool for pulling in rope of the sails. Look it up.

@@craigwinterburn Thnaks a lot ! I've found it. In french it's "poignée d'étarquage". Pour les francais, c'est donc une poignée d'étarquage, trouvable dans les shop de voile.

great idea to put this tool on a rope and use the weight of your body for tension. 👍
