Over a few hundred hours, apprentice Sydney Akagi navigated design and weaving of a small (32 inch) Chilkat dancing blanket for her newborn son. Mentor weaver, Lily Hope, supported in person, online (thank you, FaceTime), and via photos and short videos shared back and forth as Sydney immersed herself in history, in identity, in honor of her ancestors, weaving in a strong lineage of Chilkat weaving artists, and leaving a legacy for her children. Gunalcheesh, Bunnell Street Arts and The CIRI Foundation for support of this Chilkat mentor apprenticeship.
