My background is as a maternal and child health epidemiologist. We use data to answer questions like who is getting sick, where they live geographically, how the occurrence of those illnesses change over time and what exposures can cause or prevent those illnesses. We focus on the outcomes and disparities related to maternal and infant health outcomes in an effort to improve the health of women, children and families. The thing that changed the trajectory of my career was when I learned that Black women with a college degree had worse birth outcomes than White women who didn't finish high school. And that was me, like I'm that Black woman.
