Great video! Dra. Maité is a delight. One difference I've noted between U.S. medicine and medicine here is the level of detail. Here, we always have to ask about things like: "do I take this medicine with food", or "how do I prepare for this surgery". In the U.S. usually there are very detailed instructions about these things.

Thanks Monte. Good observation. Agreed. It's another example of expat patients needing to take more control of their health than perhaps they are used to.

I feel blessed that my wife and I have found Dra Maite, she is the best we have ever had in all our lives in two countries. I thought this interview might be too long, but I found I was interested in all the topics she covered and with the candor with which she dealt with these issues.

Agree on all counts John. Dra Maite is wonderful. I also thought it was too long at first glance. But, when I tried to edit I struggled to work out what to cut so I basically just left it all in there.

Thank you for this.. I was interested in the long term care situation ( assisted vs nursing home care) as I have Parkinson's and am getting up in years.

Thanks Stephen, we are helping with another project to create content for tbe current assisted living facilities here. We'll hopefully create some videos on these too.

PLEASE keep us updated should there be a good assisted living facility in Cuenca (like Club Las Lomas in Cotacachi)!

We'll certainly do so. What do you like about the Club Las Lomas facility? We haven't been.

A very informative interview. The cost of medical care in Ecuador is an embarrassment. France doesn't charge women $10-20K to give birth, just Ecuador! An IRM or MRI in France is 70 euros, not hundreds. Retirees should consider France as they medical care is affordable and good. It seems like the insurance industry in Ecuador is unreasonable. Why are people forced to purchase health care in Ecuador when nothing is covered? Or if it covered, it can take years before you get your money back. So you are prepaying for your own care anyway, At least in the USA, you are covered for everything with no exceptions. Who ever heard of not covering a woman with hypo thyroid issues? The lady needs medication which costs maybe 3 euros a box for 3 months.

We are biased, as Maite is our family doctor. But even if it's just a regular checkup with blood work, hard for us to recommend someone better.

Looking for a way to contact Dr. Maite other than WhatsApp? Tried to email Jason, and the email came back as not valid. Thanks for your help, anyone.
