I've gotten so much doubt about whether or not I'm autistic from doctors who have no business saying so, despite the fact that I am officially diagnosed, because I am an adult, did well in school, and have a job. Thank you for this video.

5 years of neuro health problems and I've never been believed or batted an eye because I'm autistic. Funny thing though, they will wield autism stigma like a Balrog whip, but will deny my autistic experiences when I /thoroughly/ explain them and why they precipitate certain health problems. My life is on hold indefinitely due to physical handicaps and flare-up triggers the longer they do this. My mental and pain is looming over me indefinitely. I am BARELY able to go to school and function at that caliber. And my providers think it's totally fine and decide to pass on notes about how I've got anxiety or a 'somatoform disorder' and try get out of helping. Guess I'm not gonna make it past the poor life expectancy of our demographic seeing this won't end. Thank you for this great video btw. This means a lot to any autistic person hearing what you have to say.

Great video. When I approached my doctor in 2018. He said “you can’t be autistic, you have friends, a job and a hobby”. I’m in the uk and it’s not much different, sadly.

Sad to hear that. Looks like the whole world has some serious work to do.

This topic goes so deep. Let's say someone succeeds in getting their neurotype acknowledged by the doctors they see. Now what? Doctors are not trained in how to communicate with neurodivergent folks and they are not given enough time per appointment to answer even pre-scripted and well organized questions. Now picture an autistic person being given a new medical diagnosis and asked if they have any questions. How much understanding do you think they are going to leave that appointment with? How well equipped will they be to make treatment decisions when their doctors have neither the time nor the training to help them sort out their thoughts to get their questions formed and answered? From my experience as someone who works for a nonprofit answering the cancer questions people don't get answered by their doctors, it isn't a pretty picture. But who knows for sure? It's not like there's a collection of studies on neurodiversity and outcomes for cancer or other diseases...

I am so sorry that you and so many others deal with disrespectful and disgusting comments from people, let alone doctors. That is horrible and you deserve so much better.

When a doctor seems to think they can diagnose ASD by sight... Ask them if they can determine sexual orientation by the way a person looks and acts.

@@AutisticAllie ... autistic faces are very distinct to me... it's automatic and instinctive... makes choosing professionals very easy... I've always relied on it.

I asked a doctor once about autism and she said she was pretty sure that wasn't on the table because I could make eye contact 🤭

I was getting an evaluation at school to get extra help after learning my diagnosis (I was already diagnosed from my healthcare doctors) and the lady was like well from meeting you for 30 minutes you have been able to make eye contact and talk easily so I think your diagnosis was wrong and you just have anxiety 👁👄👁

Uhhh?? That's the same as saying "oh, I haven't seen you need a wheelchair while we've been talking, so you must be able to walk!" Sheesh, some people...
