1️⃣ Brushing first thing in the morning and before bed is key. Since you produce less saliva overnight, bad bacteria can grow overnight. You want to clear that out before you eat or drink anything. 2️⃣ Tongue scraping first thing in the AM is the best, for the same reason as brushing. You want to clear that bad bacteria off the tongue from the previous night. 3️⃣ Studies show us that flossing before brushing is prefered if you have the choice. You end up loosening plaque prior to brushing. 4️⃣ If you use a waterpik do it before you brush for the same reason and sometimes you can choose to use it instead of floss. 5️⃣ Some people truly love oil pulling and in my opinion it would work best to do it after tongue scraping, but before you floss or brush, so you can thoroughly rinse. 6️⃣ I’m not a huge mouthwash fan, but if you do use it I would recommend using it prior to brushing also, because you want the toothpaste to sit on your teeth after you brush. This would be true for most toothpaste options. If you use mouthwash you end up washing this away.

Don't rinse and don't eat or drink for 30mins to let the toothpaste do it's magic. Yes you should spit out all the toothpaste and just have a thin layer. *Optional* After lunch: rinse your mouth with water and then with mouthwash. Bedtime: floss or use interdental brushes (or use the waterpick if you have braces.) Brush your teeth for 2 min. Optional in the morning; use a tongue scraper. That's it. Edit: fixed spelling

Dentist here, your enamel is softened if you eat anything acidic (sugars carbs etc) so if you drink orange juice, eat pancakes etc you are right to wait a bit before brushing. You can also drink a glass of water and do the mouthwash movements with it to accelerate the rehardening of the enamel surface (pH of your saliva will go back up). And yeah if you eat right after waking up then brush your teeth after breakfast, the point is to make sure you don't stay for hours with the food you ate in the morning. In fact you should brush your teeth after ingesting any food but rare are the people motivated enough to brush 3 or more times a day 😊

People who consume sugar and carbs? Now I know some don’t for diets/allergy reasons but most human beings on the planet consume some sort of sugar/carbs because that’s how you get energy … in absolutely every culture there’s a traditional everyday carb whether it’s rice wheat any grain potatoes corn manioc .. it doesn’t belong in the list with drink and drugs …

@@parbhk2889 I'll keep it simple, because I understand the confusion for sure. Processed Sugar is a "Drug" and one of the most addictive drugs worldwide. It is a toxin, carcinogen & it is poison to the Human Body! PLEASE look up the damaging effects of processed sugar, high fructose corn syrup and the other 151 forms of sugar added to our food & drinks everyday. You are ABSOLUTELY correct that Humans consume sugar in some way, shape or form (Natural fruits, starches and carbs) as a form of food & energy. However, how it is consumed is why I put it in the lineup of damaging factors to oral health care. Both you & me, may not consume a lot of sugar/carbs at every single serving, but a lot of other Citizens do! They snack on sugar & carbs from the time they wake up, snacks and sugary drinks throughout the day, more snacks towards the evening and again as a midnight snack!.... So yes, if humans consume both sugar & carbs to that level of consumption, you are most definitely doing more damage than good to your health & oral care and could benefit from a very healthy & very structured brushing regimen!... You asked a really good question and I hope my response answers it!... Everything in careful moderation is okay, but beyond that - you enter the damage zone!....

@@boxingelfis1499 This is simply an assumption from what I took away from the upload. He is talking about and educating an audience that is suffering from "possibly" poor oral hygiene or those wanting to maintain strong hygiene, but may be struggling or dealing with compromised oral health care, so the treatment plan is more direct & clinicly aggressive than most would expect or desire. If you are reversing gingivitis, other forms of gum disease & clinicly noted demineralized enamel, bad breath or other oral health care challenges, then follow the steps provided in his post! Why? Because those suffering with everything I mentioned above or more, are treating a serious condition and even though you did all the following the night before when going to bed, the bacteria deep beneath the gum line, on your tongue, on the cheek tissues and the throat will come back overnight with a vengeance in a mouth that is 98°, harbors bacteria and needs to be regulated. So brushing first thing in the morning, not only kills all the bacteria, viruses and pathogens first thing in the morning, but it won't mix with the food & drinks that you would normally consume first thing in the morning before eating and then swallowing, consuming them deeper into the body (Again, opening the gateway)!.... 1) tongue scraping 2)floss 3)oil pulling 4) mouthwash 5) brushing 1) isn't necessary as an independent item, you can often brush/scrape your tongue while brushing with the back of your toothbrush if it's textured or even the bristles if not. Great for people with high colony forming bacteria in their mouths which tends to cause bad breath. Personally I don't have that problem. I can go multiple days without brushing or proper oral hygiene without any change to my breath (not that I do). Most of my bad breath would come from decaying food between teeth, that's why I consider flossing so important. 2) flossing is the most important right after brushing. It helps to dislodge decaying food particles stuck between teeth and beneath the gum line. It also loosens plaque all around the teeth. Not flossing is one of the largest contributors to persistent bad breath. People who don't floss tend to bleed upon their first few uses but that's normal and is typically a sign for gum sensitivity as a result of inflammation from all the build up of bacteria. 3) oil pulling for people who have very stained teeth from smoking, drinking coffee, etc. the non polar oil tends to dissolve staining agents and remove it from the first few layers of the teeth 4) mouthwash is a general antiseptic for the whole mouth. At least areas you typically don't/can't brush. It's only mildy effective at killing bacteria and isn't necessary but it can help reduce odor and some people just like the routine, smell or sensation of it. 5) brushing, last but definitely not least. It's the step that removes plaque and deposits the fluorine into your enamel structure to reinforce it. Don't rinse after brushing, but you can spit out the toothpaste. Don't eat anything for at least 30min after brushing. Make sure to angle the brush at 45° when brushing the top of your tooth to get beneath the gum line. Brush front, back and top of teeth as well. You can lightly brush your gums (the area beneath the lips) and your tongue as well as the hard palate. Just make sure you're generally being gentle, even with the teeth and use a soft bristle brush. In fact the brushing aspect is more important than the toothpaste. Toothpaste is for structural longevity but brushing prevents immediate decay and cavities. If ever in a pinch, just dry brush or even scrape the plaque off your teeth with your nails or the end of a soft branch. I don't use a water pick and they are superfluous in addition to a floss but are a useful replacement for flossing if it's too difficult (think children, elderly, braces, motor disability like parkinsons etc, or just convenient) They are also great if you're prone to getting tonsil stones. Those can be uncomfortable and irritating and the smell awful and can cause bad breath. The order is like this because flossing dislodged dead or decaying food and loosens plaque which needs to be brushed away. Next oil pulling because the oil needs to be washed away too. Then Mouthwash because brushing needs to be last in order to keep all the important toothpaste parts on your teeth for as long as possible. Therefore no rinsing or eating after. Hope this helps.

@RelliousNeth23 сағат бұрын
You mainly brush to get plaque off. After sleeping plaque is at its maximum throughout the day, and when you eat, your mouths pH lowers, making it easier for said bacteria in the plaque to damage your enamel. When you brush after waking up, you remove the plaque. Your mouths pH will still get lower from eating, but since theres no plaque, there's no chance of the acid produces by bacteria damaging your teeth You don't need to brush after every meal, just before bed (as to prepare to sleep, since during sleep your body produces less saliva), and after waking up (maximum plaque)

I would correct, the best time to brush is after eating. Just spit out the toothpaste no rinsing, eating or drinking for 2 hours after. You want the fluoride in the mouth to strengthen the teeth. The pellicle on the tooth of bacteria helps a bit for protecting when eating. Just be aware if you eat anything or drink anything sour you should wait for 30 minuts, or else you can damage the enamel. For the mouthwash ig should always be 0,2 % NaF, best to do it not together with brushing since you already have fluoride in the toothpaste. So its best once during the day. I would say oil pulling and tonguescrapping is optional. Brushing should gry rid of 60-70 percent of the plack and the rest with floss or interdental brushes 😊 I would then say do what works for you and as long as you dont get cavities, gingivitis or perodontitis its fine
@RelliousNeth23 сағат бұрын
You should actually brush before, since you need to get the plaque (bacterial biofilm) OFF your teeth before eating, since eating makes your teeth more susceptible for damages, it's called Stephens curve. What protects your teeth is not the biofilm, yes, there is a pellicle in your teeth, but thats different from biofilm. Biofilm is bacteria, it is always bad for you, meanwhile the teeth acquired pellicle is your body's, it is made to protect and restore your teeth. it is made by proteins and minerals that revert microscopia damage to your teeth Brushing after eating is not needed if you don't have plaque. It'll just help shorten the Stephens curve, but it's not optimal

❤️Try and do your oral hygiene routine as soon as you wake up so that the taste of the toothpaste is minimized when you have breakfast. ❤ I also recommend flossing after eating lunchtime / afternoon and mouthwash if possible or just swirl water around. You shouldn't brush straight after after eating because of the demineralisation ( due to lowered pH). ❤ FINALLY 😊 after food - chewing a good sugar free gum with xylitol helps with saliva flow and removing bits plus helps with fresh breath. But only chew for 5 - 10 minutes. ( obviously if you have issues with xylitol et. al then don't use and don't chew too many gums because you will end up looking like a chipmunk, cause wear on your teeth and possibly end up spending a lot of time on the loo due to the laxative effects of xylitol). ❤ Tea without sugar is good for teeth too. ❤ As an alternative to tongue scrapping just brush your tongue gently for a few seconds. ❤ There are some people who do not like Fluoride toothpastes so use a herbal one but it will not protect against cavities in the same way. Dietary control of sugary/ carby foods then is very important. ❤ If you are using a chlorhexidine based MW for your gums try not to have things like tea and coffee immediately before or after as the staining will be much worse. ❤ For small children use the appropriate age kids toothpaste ( as the Fluoride concentration will be lower). Encourage them to spit out thoroughly but no rinsing. There are also rubbery toothbrushes available for toddlers. And if you don't have kids t/paste then just make sure that they only put a smear of the adult toothpaste on their brush. ❤ Flossettes if you are kack - handed. With fluoride. ❤ I also recommend dipping interdental brushes in a tiny bit of toothpaste - helps lubricate so easier to use and the fluoride gets right in between the teeth. thanks for the video - i havent thought about this long enough to determine all of these proper orders of operations as you have already done here. but i can logically say - you are perfectly correct about these things! twice a day, all of these, for a perfect regiment. only quick question would be - after meals in the middle of the day, should we do a simple quick flossing and brushing about an hour after lunch? idk!

I didn’t know you need to floss if you use the waterpik. Doesn’t the waterpik take care of everything?
@jong93799 сағат бұрын
Yes, but not fully. Flossing is still more important than waterpik alone. Particularly for the back teeth.

If you floss before you brush wouldn’t you end up shoving an excessive amount of bacteria into your gums? I like to brish twice
@luckycatdad836920 сағат бұрын
No, the best time to brush is whenever you can. 99% of people aren't brushing at the "optimum" time because they have a life.

My routine in the evening -after at least 1h after meal: 1. superfloss -for bridges with crowns 2. floss 3. orthodontic brush -with a bit of toothpaste and for between teeth and near the gums only 4. interdental brush 5. electric round brush -the regular electric one got broken after several months from Temu... 6. waterpick/ waterfloss -I used airfloss but it got broken after several years and I don't see airflosses anymore; was also expensive 7. gargling with water + mouthwash and spitting 8. 1 min only mouthwash gargling 9. interdental brush with toothpaste leave-on 10. mouthwash spray on the back of the throat It takes me around 30 min if not even more sometimes 😳

I'm curious about the best time to brush part.... Is it better than brushing both morning and night? Is there a significant difference? What happens if someone brushes only at night? Is it worse?
@HealthWithCory6 күн бұрын
You want to brush twice per day, somewhere around 12 hours apart. If you only brush once you leave alot of time for bad bacteria (and biofilm they live in) to sit on the teeth. You also leave more room for plaque to turn into tarter. So ideally in the morning when you wake up and then before bed.

I diagree with the tongue scrape, most of the time when we brush the residue to toothpaste sticks to the tongue and doesn't go off just by water. Tongue scrape makes it clean.

You don't need the mouthwash if you do oil pulling. And oil pulling is better than mouthwash as it whitens your teeth whereas mouthwash discolours your teeth.
@holahulu-c4wКүн бұрын
I also heard that you shouldnt rinse mouth after brushes. You kinda mentioned it here eith the point about not using mouthwash after brushing. Just spit out as much paste as you can. If needed, rinse with a tiny smount of water but best avoid so the fluride is in contact with teeth longer

I still don’t understand why we’re worried about getting rid of germs before we eat breakfast. Why not brush after breakfast and get rid of not only the germs collected overnight, but the food from breakfast that can cause more bacteria to build up on the teeth all day?

so brushing once every three weeks is not enough?

Morning - brush then tongue clean Afternoon - brush Evening - floss, brush, tongue clean Been doing this for years, never got a new cavity. Also, it's important to eat healthy, lessening sugary foods and fast food significantly lowers your chances of getting cavities
@belindagarcia67044 күн бұрын
Waterflosser does not replace flossing! A waterflosser is not as effective as flossing! It doesn’t hug and doesn’t get behind the contact (where the teeth touch).

@mohitjaisingh84822 күн бұрын
Drinking water before you brush is the best thing you can do for your gut. The teeth can take care of themselves if one stops eating dead and processed food.
@mohitjaisingh84822 күн бұрын
Well, of course brush to be the food particles out. Swoosh water after every meal and spit it out. Y'all won't need more than a brush and a paste for the rest of your life. Plus save on the doctor's bill.
@mohitjaisingh84822 күн бұрын
I'd argue floss are the worse invention. On regular use they create gaps between teeth to allow food particles to get stuck easily. And the mouth wash? Yea. Full of artificial chemicals that burn the mouth. Of course they'll kill the bacteria. What about the good ones that need to get to your gut? Remember? Half the digestion is supposed to happen in the mouth.

I prefer to use the tongue scraper after the mouthwash to rinse off all food remnants, and before brushing, so it doesn't get permanently tarnished with food scraps and "food" smells. It'd be a real hassle to wash off the "food" odors from the tongue scraper if you use it directly after eating, even with soap.
@Yolk4214 күн бұрын
You wash it after every use; if it still smells, you may have something else going on and it would be recommended for you to see a dentist.

You should brush first then eat, if you're having issues with the after taste of food, the problem is your tooth paste. Switch brands until you find one that doesn't change taste. Or you could just brush without paste, get all that plaque off, then eat, then brush it again with tooth paste

I Know that Dentists recommend brushing your teeth before sleep.. I also know that dentists are making a living off dental treatments.. when you brush your teeth before bed there’s not food leftovers for the germs to eat so they bite into the protective layer aka Enamel.
