What area did you decide to reside in Spain. Why? If not your area, where else is a good place to check out?

We live in the Valencian region in Alicante proviince. We have a small apartment in the city of Alicante and the farm is in the the mountains in a tiny town called Torremanzanas about 45 minutes (and a world) away. After touring pretty much all of Spain, we find that the weather here is, more or less the best balance (warmest in the winter and coolest in the summer), the city is perfectly connected with high speed rail and an airport that’s not too big and 15 minutes away. We can pretty much access anything we need and visits to bigger cities are only a fast train ride away. There are many many ebautiful regions in Spain but this jsut happened to suit us perfectly.

@@mediterraneanminutes We lived 11 years in Costa Rica and loved it and our neighbors next door lived in Spain for awhile. Spain’s immigration laws sound very similar to Costa Rica. We had to move back to the states for my husbands medical needs because Costa Rica doesn’t allow the newest and best medicines for his condition in the country and their universal healthcare system is really inadequate. They don’t even allow epi pens into the country. You can’t import ANY specialty foods (not even jelly) and all imports have a huge aduana tag on them. Also Medicare won’t pay for anything unless it is an emergency situation and you are only visiting, not residing.

@@CrazyCarmenMirada That’s all really interesting because at one point in my life, I have some thought to moving there. Of course, the issues you raised are not at all issues here. Medical care, form my experience, is top notch. And while Medicare will not work here, after one year we were able to apply for national insurance at a monthly cost of about $175, covers everything, no deductibles. As a back up we also have private insurance with the same terms for about $1200/year. And specialty foods? Well, let’s just say no problem for me…ha!
