This business fraud trial is a series of mostly misdemeanors. That's the only reason Judge Merchan probably won't sentence him to jail time. He could get house arrest ( with an ankle bracelet ), or at the very least probation being a first-offender legally. If Trump hadn't trashed Merchan so often, he would be in a better position. We'll find out on July 11 if the judge shows mercy! He already fined Trump $10,000 for multiple contempt of court charges during the trial. It’s so strange hearing the republicans saying that an ex-president being convicted and serving sentences is like a banana republic when it’s exactly the opposite. France’s ex-PM Sarkozy went to jail, Berlusconi in Italy served a few years sentence, Spain and Portugal ex-PMs were convicted for fraud and served sentences. All countries with much stronger democracies than the US. Ex politicians having impunity for clear crimes, that’s a sign of a banana republic, not the other way around.
