My hearing loss is due to nerve damage behind the ear drum. Operation required. Everything you've covered in this post is exactly how I felt over 10 years at approx 50 ! I could hear the birds, I could hear myself eating ? I could hear the ocean a km away. Most importantly I could hear conversations at work.
