I completely agree. I played a 4 string from 4 years old till 17. Then I bought a 5 string and it's just so much more comfortable in playing to me. Sure, I don't exactly NEED the fifth string, but it adds a whole nother level of creativity once you really know how to use it.

Sure, you don't need more than 4 strings per-say, but if you play on all the strings of a 5 or more then there isn't a problem. I don't get why people say bass players playing on more than 4 strings are cheating or other junk like that. It's a preference thing.
