Hi all. Pretty late up there. Such a beautiful cover by Floor. Sir Joost van den Broek is on the piano. He played the keyboards with After Forever, Floor’s first band. He still works with Floor on her solo stuff and also plays in Ayreon and Star One. He also produces for a lot of bands like EPICA for instance. He got knighted for his contribution to music. Floor made several videos of her covering songs during the Covid lockdown in her home studio. My personal favorite is m83’s Oblivion. Floor is definitely my favorite female vocalist, but Ann Wilson may very well be the one she supplanted, and is probably still my second favorite. Heart made this song a hit, but they weren’t the original version. They covered it. It was originally done by a band called i-Ten, as a duet.

Floor used Joost's track. He was keyboardist for After Forever. They had a cover of Alone also. He did some co-writing with Floor. But now she has another Dutch co-writer and producer Gordon Groothedden He produced Her latest singles for the upcoming album. Her singles so far include Fire, Storm, and Me Without You. Fire and Storm were filmed in Helsinki Finland by a professional production company. Me without You was shot by Hannes Van Dahl. Floor will have her radiation treatment in February during Nightwish break. Floor will do a small tour of her Solo stuff in the Netherlands and Germany in April and May. Nightwish resumes their tour in June for festival season. Somehow recording the new Nightwish album will fit in somewhere. Probably late Summer and Fall .

According to many vocal coaches on You Tube, Floor is one of the best female vocalists in the world. Tuomas said "Floor is a dedicated charismatic vocalist" and what I have said before "Floor is a gift to Nightwish". Floor is so versatile and as a front-woman she is in a very high league.

A little correction - it's i-10 that made 'Alone' - but it was Heart that made it famous. Floor has done this cover on many different gigs: After Forever, ReVamp, Nightwish (on the cruise), her solo tour - and her cover here to her fans during the Covid-19 lock-down. She is at least as good as Ann Wilson, and more powerful. I bet Hannes got his hair blown off during his filming of this 🤣🤘🤘

Okay souls, you've asked for it.. You simply HAVE to explore the "Beste Zangers 2019" goldmine of all things Floor! I'll try to keep this short (..) and post a follow-up with all the necessary links. So Floor's current solo adventure got kick-started during the legendary 2019 edition of the Dutch TV show, "Beste Zangers". In English this transl. into "Best Singers" but it can also be taken as "Dear Singers", as in a written invitation. That's what the show is about. No competition or anything. Just accomplished singers gathered together in an intimate setting far from home (this was filmed on Ibiza, if I'm not mistaken). Each episode is dedicated to one of the singers. The other ones perform songs that have a special meaning for the singer at the centre of attention. What's so nice abt Floor in that show was that most of the other singers didn't know her. She was that "metal chick" and not well known in the mainstream. Most of the Dutch television audience didn't know much about her either. That was about to change dramatically. In short, she blew all of them away, singing in German, Dutch, English and Spanish. From the get-go, she set the bar so high that the others stepped up their game and in turn delivered stellar performances when they sang to Floor (and were incredibly nervous). Special mention in this respect: Emma Heesters (a KZbin singer) who sang Floor's song "Strong" to Floor (who had written it for her mother who suffers from chronic RA). Tissues handy for that one! When doing reactions as non-Dutchies, it's best to go with the English subbed versions that I'll provide the links to. These versions include the lovely before/after banter which provides some very useful & fun context to the songs. The official versions (by broadcaster AVRO/TROS) I would not recommend, since they miss the before/after chat and also tend to get blocked increasingly. Sir Joost Van Den Broek Was the Keyboard player in Floor's first band Afterforever and worked with Arjen on his Star one and Ayreon projects. He is good friends and a fellow song writer with Floor and has helped her with some of her songs this one is just one of them. If anyone could give Tuomas a challenge on keys it's Joost. Lol. I have projects in mind...Dang I wish I could write with Marco...also green screen, animation...Tons of Nightwish Sabbaton ,Epica influence...I get a lot of inspiration from the Nightwish Army. More is more an Epican thought. IF animal showed up more to rehearsal I have a couple contacts at Arista, Flip and I recorded with in Nashville many moons ago....We are so backed up with new material....Oh Drummer where Art Thou? But Anyways, Toumas has had gigantic influence on recent writings Especially on the keys...Both Tomakazi and I were writing lyrics yesterday....I see it coming soon 🎵 🎶 Song Wars 😆 lol. You perhaps remember Sir Jost van den Broek, the Piano Artist in Aeryons The Day the World breaks down? Thats his Piano Track. She did many great Covers and great Solo Songs, much more Poppy but always Floor. Great emotional Music. And i am absoluter Sure, you would love the Show Episodes of sing my Song, both Dutch Show and german one( 2019/22), where she did participate. they are all worth an Watch:). Floor Jansen's cover of i-Ten's Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly's "Alone" is right up there for me with Heart's, and I am a huge, huge Heart fan.... telling my age a wee bit, lol. When Ann Wilson belts that one run at about 2 minutes into the song, I get chills everytime and there is no telling how many time I've heard this song and played it. One of the first songs I learned to play on the keyboard was "Alone"... that and Europe's "The Final Countdown." Same thing with Floor. I've heard her sing this, I've lost count by now, but when she just belts out that killer vocal run at around 2:30... goose bumps every time. I'll probably be the 100th person to say this but the pianoist on this cover of "Alone" is Joost Van Den Broek. One of the first songs I learned to play on guitar was Heart's "Barracuda," and I've always wanted to hear Floor do a cover it as well.

"Alone" is a song composed by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly, who recorded it under the name i-Ten on their 1983 album Taking a Cold Look. So.... "Alone" is not a Heart song ;D Heart did also a cover.

The piano was played by Joost van den Broek. He and Floor are old friends, have worked together. Joost also directs the (rare) live concerts of Ayreon. If you search out Ayreon Universe you will find many if not all live songs on which he participates. You did not like Ayreon "The day that... ' too much, but the live shows are much different and vivid. Did you know Floor has a sister who sings too? Did you know Michael Mills can belt a b5 live on stage? You will find surprising contributions and appearances....

You're opening that rabbit hole I see. Floor's covers are very memorable. Her performance on the Dutch TV show: "Beste Zangers" made her a legend with the non-metal community. Her covers of the songs Euphoria, Winner, Shallow, Que' Se Siente, etc... are now legendary. She blew everyone's minds. Artists and viewers both. Winner is my favorite, but viewers really freak out over her duo with opera singer Henk Poort. They are singing Nightwish's version of Phantom of the Opera. This song was retired by the band after Tarja left and is known to be the quintesential song for the original Nightwish. The End of an Era DVD performance shows this. Floor's version though is sensational in its own right. On the show Floor sang in German, Spanish, Dutch, and English. Spectacular performances! Pick a song, sit back and enjoy your popcorn! This was done during Covid restrictions She recorded this at home *Sweden) in her den. No members of Nightwish were involved due to travel restrictions, they could not even go see each other in person. They were all stuck in different countries. I'm not sure who was on the piano, but it might have been her husband. I think tinkering with this song and a couple of others was her segway into recording her solo album. While stuck at home, she began to experiment with non-rock singing styles.

the show is called "Beste Zangers" which is Dutch for "best singers" (its a great show whith many great songs by Floor, and others, especially for they year 2019 in which Floor participated, with songs like Phantom of the Opera, Shallow and many others). P.S. Zesty bangers... that's a good one!

Heart was one of my favorite bands in the 80's and I still have all their albums (but oddly, no turntable...hmmm. Well, I also have the CD's).
