I love your style of teaching. I needed a refresher before working as a nurse. You saved me a lot of time from needing to search various sources just to learn one topic. It takes a certain kind of intelligence to simplify a complex subject for people to understand upon listening for the first time. Therefore, I enjoyed listening, learning, and taking notes. Plus, I like hearing your cutee accent, so that's a plus!

I was taught that the best place to hear aortic murmurs is along the left sternal boarder with the pt leaning forward holding an exhaled breath. Is there something different about the first murmur discussed that changes that?
@TheLearnMedicineShow2 жыл бұрын
Excellent question! You were taught correctly and the position you mention is for detecting aortic regurgitation! Exhalation increases blood flow to the left sid of the heart and can help with mumurs that are soft or difficult to hear. Aortic stenosis is better heard around the aortic area (right upper sternal edge, 2nd intercostal space) and will radiate to the carotids. Murmurs are typically head louder and trasmit in the direction of blood flow. So with Aortic regurgitation the blood is flowing towards the ventircle and antomically this will be closest to the left sternal edge. hope this helps :)
