I used to haul salt out of those ruins in the beginning of this video back in the 80's. They had wells south of the plant where they pumped the salt water into the evaporative ponds then bring the salt up to the plant. The concrete ruins was the kiln they used to dry the salt. It was then bagged and put on pallets. Their main customers were the many dairies in southern California as well as feed companies such as O H Kruse. Evidently the demise of the dairy industry in southern California meant the demise of the salt operations.

You poor wife. You give her gray hairs at a young age. LOL Never go into the Mohave alone. Always with another second vehicle following. That place is no joke. Hope you cleaned your car afterwards. It could turn to a rust bucket just like all those others left to waste out there. In 1976 there was a hurricane that brought extreme flooding to the dessert. I was coming into San Diego from TX for the first time. We got detoured north through the desert. Then finally found a one lane trail west up over the mountains. It was a scary switchback that went vertical up the side of the mountain. I didn't think my car would make it. But we did. Ended up in the Palomar Mtn area.

Its sad that you werent able to visit the old santa fe line to Blythe before the tracks were pulled. That wouldve been a great speeder ride.
@archiemoreno Жыл бұрын
Yeah . a pity I'm late. They removed the tracks in 2009 or 2010. only 4 miles left from the spur to blythe. I have the drive from Ripley to Rice. by car. I will upload it shortly. thank you.

Chubbuck California quick lime capital of the world. Once had a bustling economy with own school, post office, company store, many homes. Car looks like a 64 Ford but very hard to tell. They use to process tailings from San Francisco Union Carbide acetylene plant. Hauled in drums by rail.

The salt products company has seen better days I hope. Just how active is the A&C Railroad?

The arizona and california rr line is still active. I have seen trains run there. In Cadiz there was a train formation.

@@archiemoreno There is a video put out by "Ran Out On A Rail channel" this past week of him riding a train from Phoenix to Barslow. I swear the same tank cars in your video was in his, too. As always, thanks for the video.

Area looks a bit like the Libyan plain sand sea but much more hospitable. Cadiz California is over a vast underground aquifer with more water than Lake Mead ten times.

It sure would make watching a long video easier to watch if you would talk about what you are filming.
