Heart-Pounding Journey: Overcoming Haast Pass Weather to Discover Greenstone on the West Coast!

We reveal some tips how to find Greenstone in New Zealand.

We have battled the really bad weather and storm on our West Coast trip.
We have started our trip over the Haast Pass from Wanaka, unfortunately our travel plans were colliding with the bad weather predicted for the West Coast and we have been forced to move further up North to avoid potential "being trapped" on the road. There is only one road connecting Wanaka with the West Coast , Highway 6, this road is going over the famous Haast Pass. We was stopping in Fox Glacier village over the night, but receiving there the news that the road behind is is already closed, we had to move up north, as the water level in the rivers raising up, and the risk that bridges are getting washed away was getting bigger and bigger. We had to move near to the Kumara Junction to keep the options open to go over the Arthurs Pass as planned, or in the worst case going further up North via Greymouth in the Nelson direction. The whole week was stressful and as we have been trapped 12 years ago at the same location, we do not want to be in that situation again.
This 140-km section of State Highway 6 is a spectacular and scenic road linking Wanaka and Haast.
It reaches beyond wind-whipped Lakes Wanaka and Hāwea, through golden tussock-covered hills, to wind among steep mountains cloaked in lush rainforest and cross tumbling rivers. It then skirts undulating forests that seemingly float in tea-stained swamps, to finally reach the foaming surf of the Tasman Sea.

the strange thing with greenstone, they looking grey if they are dry, but we found a lot and a couple of nice one....
