I think more intelligent species like orca and dolphins know that humans are perfectly capable of exterminating them if they mess around, so they leave us alone. There was a shark panic about a century ago after a streak of attacks, and the response decimated the shark population for decades. You don't mess with the apex predator.

Older sharks also generally know we aren't food as well. Shark attacks are fatal due to the test bite not due to them actually wanting to eat us. Also fun fact if you respect the hierarchy of a huge feeding group like on a whale corpse you have next to nothing to fear because if a small or medium shark tried to start shit with you one of the bigger sharks would drive it off. It's terror only if you concider it as a terror. You don't concider a blue whale a terror because you know it won't purposely do anything to you. Orcas follow pretty much the same pattern with humans, they are curious but not dangerous because humans are not their natural food. And if you say yeah but there have been cases where orca attacks human, I can say that there are more cases where pet dog attacks its owner. That does not mean that a pet dog would propose threat by default.

I know that orcas are completely harmless when it comes to human interaction and they only attack humans mostly when they get prisoned in seaworlds for years but honestly if i was in ocean and a orca came to me and looked at me like that I'd be shivering in my boots and pooping my pants knowing that if that thing wanted it could end me in seconds...
@kolbywilliams7234
@kolbywilliams7234 Күн бұрын
That’s not true. They happen at sea world because they are in constant contact with humans every day, and even then it is relatively rare. Most wild killer whales never interact directly with humans, so there is no opportunity. They can tell by sonar that we aren’t something they would like to eat, but they sometimes kill for fun, and that’s when they are dangerous. If people swam with wild killer whales every day the same way people do in Sea World, you’d see more deaths from wild ones, potentially more, because pods express learned behaviors. They might develop the attitude that humans are basically underwater hacky sacks

The fatal encounter reportedly happened in the 1950s, when some orcas became trapped in sea ice in the eastern Canadian Arctic. Two Igloolik Inuit elders told researchers decades later that a young man ignored the advice of his elders and went to see the trapped killer whales. He was warned the ice was too thin, but he believed he could outrun the orcas. According to the elders, an orca broke through the thin ice and ate him. It's a cautionary tale that the researchers couldn't verify when they reported it as part of a 2014 study in the journal Aquatic Mammals. Hoyt thinks that falling into icy water is a more likely cause of the man's death." www.livescience.com/animals/how-often-do-orcas-attack-humans

Yes, they are very intelligent beings, and they know exactly what a human is@@cindybrock1705

I dont think a lot of us realize how intelligent these creatures are. They know we're the ones building and operating boats/ships/vessels. They know we're the ones who built the dwellings/monuments/buildings they see whenever they come near the coast. They have built-in sonar that tells them exactly what your heart rate is and if you're friendly, scared, or posing a threat. They're more civil in their interactions with us than we are with them.

If you've ever heard the old saying, "Like recognizes like," I truly believe that orca, dolphins & whales recognize that humans are also intelligent species (at least some humans), and they don't want to harm us. It's a shame that we humans can't, or won't, always pay them the same courtesy.
