Doc Speak Series continues: Dr Vinayak Agrawal shares common myths about heart disease. There has been a large increase in sudden cardiac deaths among the young Indians, heart disease is no longer a disease of the old alone. There is no evidence to suggest that COVID or the Vaccines led to increased risk of heart disease. It is essential to assess our risk factors for heart disease, Dr Agrawal highlighted important risk factors that we should be aware of. He elaborated on the symptoms that distinguish a heart attack from a normal chest pain and demystified life style, diet and other changes that could be adopted to prevent heart disease.

My takeaway from this episode is the danger of plaque in our blood vessels "bursting" as opposed to remaining stable. It has aroused my curiosity to know more about this phenomenon. Thank you for your comment Vinita. Yes, plaque rupture seems to be a serious trigger to clotting and heart attack, plaque deposits are per se not so threatening. This has been my surprise understanding as well. Knowing one’s risk factors and managing these with life style changes, exercise, diet, healthy state of mind, is crucial. Thanks for your interest.
