As much as I like fanservice, it's so prevalent in anime because Japan has totally different standards from America that it makes it hard to share anime with my mom. I really enjoyed Magi and Seven Deadly Sins, but when I tried to share these exciting shows with my mother, she was quite disgusted by the perverted jokes and fanservice. In Magi, she found the groping distasteful, and the mere fact that Morgiana starts out as a slave as a sign of objectification of women. In Seven Deadly Sins, she outright accused Meliodas of being a rapist, and demanded I turn it off, asking how I could possibly think such a thing is funny. I tried to explain that even in these shows, such behavior is condemned, and Meliodas is lectured for it, and more importantly, these aspects fade out as the story gets going, but she was having none of it. Even in Haikyuu, when they introduce Kiyoko, she was put off by the focus on her breasts and butt, despite the focus being from the perspective of 2 teenage boys. Between her needing the anime to be dubbed, and the amount of fanservice there is in most anime, (as well as screaming being completely nonsensical to her), it's nearly impossible to find anime she'll watch with me.

I think the frustrating part for someone like me, is I will unintentionally ship characters together, so fanservice gets annoying because it's essentially saying "lol, they'll never be a couple but let's make it look like they might be one anyway". Some fan service does ruin anime like high school dxd it was gonna be a cool zombie killing show and there's nothing but flowing boobs, panty shots, and unnecessary nude shots. It's not so much that she's complaining as just saying so much of it is unnecessary. Also with yaoi there's definitely a lot less of yaoi in the public than regular fan service. You can't really compare the two because yaoi is more of a genre as opposed to just too much fan service which is everywhere nowadays.
