I love my Food Saver! I have used that brand for over 30 years ( I think this is my third one and I've had it at least 10 years). I'm single, but buy some things, mostly meat, in bulk and freeze it in single portions. I make things like chili, casseroles, lasagna, cut/pour into individual servings, and put them in (cheap) zip lock bags. Place them on a cookie sheet and flash freeze. Then, open the bag, place in a Food Saver (FS) bag and seal. Flash freezing keeps liquids from being sucked into the FS and does not "squish" food. And once ypu eat the food, the FS bag is ready to wash and reuse. I don't reuse any bags that have had raw meat as a safety precaution. Now ... for more uses for your vacuum sealer! It's not just for food! Here are some things that I have vacuum sealed ... candles and matches/lighters, important documents --- when vacuum sealing printed material stop the suction activity (press "seal") before it vacuums all of the air out to prevent the ink from transferring to the plastic; cash; socks, shoes and underwear; medication , both OTC and prescription. I'm sure there's more, and I know this is a food channel, but I am so passionate about my Food Saver. 😊❤

I agree with everything you said! I have worn out a few vacuum sealers over the past 20+ years. Right now I'm using a Cabellas commercial grade sealer. I also have a smaller standard sealer that I use when I only have 1 or 2 things to seal. I flash freeze just like you said. I freeze everything in bags flat, or in square containers, or just on a cookie sheet, depending on what it is, then I seal it. I usually set aside time one day a week to seal everything up and to stay on top of it. Thanks for sharing all of your great tips here!

I do vacuum seal meats now. I went through one of my freezers a few months ago and had to throw out so much that was badly freezer burned from using ziplock bags.

I know that feeling. I've put things in a zip lock to vacuum seal later and forgot. Now, I set time aside each week to vacuum seal everything. It's so worth the investment. Thanks for watching and for the chat.

do you have a video on doing this with a chest-type freezer? I never know what I have in there and nothing seems easy to find when I go looking for it..

No, not yet, but I do have a chest freezer, and I plan to film the next time it needs organized. Currently, I use ours for meat. I try to vacuum seal everything in flat packages, then I stack like items in plastic bins. I've done this for years and it helps keep things from sliding everywhere. It's still hard to lift the bins out when I need something on the bottom. Next time, when I film it, I'm gonna try to think of a different idea. Thanks for watching and reaching out.
