Jumbals are a kind of cookie that resembles a butter cookie or a mildly sweet sugar cookie. To bake with white flour, white sugar and almonds is a luxury. Our house is in financial stress as of late so once we run out of our reserves of these things I am not sure if we will be making jumbals again.

I pray God gives y'all more ways to use what y'all have to make some more money. In Jesus name amen. Maybe a magazine would go well for those of us who love old American. I think it's all interesting. I loved the colander. All that crockery. I'd set the subscription for the magazine at $10.00. Just an idea but I love everything about this channel. @@MadamoftheCatHouse Back then, that's how you survived. They didn't have prepackaged food, electric stoves, microwaves, washing machines, vacuums, etc. When I was growing up in the mountains, years back, we still did quite a lot the old timey ways, and it didn't hurt us any. Besides, the men did the work in the fields, repairing the Barns, house etc, AND most of the hunting or slaughtering livestock for food. It was actually pretty equal hard work for the men and women, though sometimes, they would help each other in certain situations. And even soaps and brooms had to be made by hand, depending on where you lived, or if you could afford pre-made soap. It wasn't always easy for either gender, because most everything had to be done by hand. If you didn't work hard, you didn't survive. People have no idea how much we have it made nowadays.

While watching this, its currently 4:18 AM, I'm a night owl, I paused it to go get some veggies cut for dinner later. This video gave me my meal plan for today -- slow cooked beef with veggies. Its not too hot, but I don't want to do too much today. I chopped up some greens, chopped up the stems of the greens because it will give crunch like celery, plus I don't like celery. Chopped celery, parsley, and green onion to go with it. Later I'll do the onion and garlic. I plan to add some cloves to it, and also turnips if I can find small ones from the grocery today. Thanks for the meal idea!

This is only the 2nd video I have seen on this channel. I’m hooked for life. Early in this video I couldn’t help noticing that Ron and Justine had some chemistry going on. Are they together/courting/married? Years ago there was an expression “he’s/she’s sweet on you”. They are a cute couple. No children yet, I noticed....unless someone is taking care of them for her. I am 67 and I love learning about how people lived in their time. She appears to be an excellent cook. I am vegetarian and lactose intolerant so, I’m pretty sure those weren’t options back then. It seems their diet has lots of veggies, so I’m happy about that. She cooks with small amounts of meat. Even though the life expectancy at the time was not very long, people weren’t usually fat. They ate simple, healthy food, worked hard and kept in good shape. No gym memberships for these people. I think the reason people today live longer is almost certainly because of good/better health care. But, if you eat crap, you’re going to feel like crap.

An entire video could be made of annual rose water production. Even if the house is under financial distress, roses are roses and the water would still get made. Ron hunting for the family, even if he scored only turnips today, is a nice touch. Good that they had the beef already. Ron will certainly endear himself to the Stephensons if he contributes to their table and there were lots of dietary strategies the family would have used to get through hard times. It's also good to see that Ron is good in the kitchen, bodes well for their future. Oh, I can hardly wait for the next episodes.

All these videos are marvellous. Bravo from Greece I really wonder, that we, at that time, a people like the Greeks, were slaves, without an identity and rights to education and development, while all of Europe was developing in all areas, in education, in the arts, in the sciences, and we were freed in 1821 after 400 years of slavery.
