I was really sad I didn't record this today, but my opponent plays Hungry Dragon. It gives me Webspinner. When it died, it gave me Gah'zrilla. Sadly, it didn't live past a turn, but that situation was very hilarious.

Today i was going out for some sausages to a local butcher's. When i got there i asked for some good sausages. The woman working there smiled viciously and told me she got some real sausages made out of meat. I was really suspicious about her smile and asked her if it's really that good. I feel like they should have made the effect a death rattle, and then it would be about somewhere between as good as piloted shredder and yeti, since it's not always just yeti +1/+1 due to the fact that it still dies to fireball so you can still run into the scenario where you play yeti/Hdragon, and your opponent immediately kills it with fireball. the out come is almost exactly the same, except that dragon gives your opponent a minion making it objectively worse than yeti there while usually being slightly better otherwise.

Sonic Shoe You can't adjust cards based on one spell [fireball]. In general, with a stat of 4 mana for 4/3 deathrattle 2 minion compared to a 5 mana for 5/6 battlecry give opponent 1 minion, it's fairly balanced in Blizzard's standards for the game. They would have to readjust the attack/health as well if you wanted Hungry Dragon to be adjusted in that way. You also have to consider the philosophy of the race or card. Hungry dragon is designed to have a more significant drawback for it's initial advantage while Shredder has an initial drawback but better advantage after death

You can combo the same turn with Hungry Dragon compared to Executus [weapons, spells, Mind Control tech, area of effect, etc) at max mana. Early game you set up the previous turns or save it for activating cards that need a dragon in your hand (mechs don’t have this feature). Mechs: initially performs stronger than late game Dragons: drawbacks early on , strongest late game. All 4 mana dragons have a drawback while the 4 mana mechs are moderate. Executus is not a bad card just very situational and actually requires to be combo’d on the same turn to meet my standard. People play Executus when they expect to die in a couple of turns, and hopefully the opponent is obligated to deal with Executus first. Hungry Dragon is more RNG based either giving you a large tempo swing or being screwed by rng.

For arena and unranked I've made a couple of decks work where it's saved me and turn the game around [warlock with alex, jaraxxus, executus]. 1 out of a 1000? A little hyperbolical, it was more like 1 out of 5 for me. Like I already said, too situational and needs to be able to be combo'd the same turn to meet my standard.

Would hungry dragon be horribly op if the effect was a deathrattle instead of being a battlecry? Just a small change that would make it much better imo, but mabey even too op in ramp druid for example. And it would even fit the flavor of the card better, because after slaying the beast you would get a friend out of his belly :D

Pit Lord is a bad comparison because it's Warlock-only, and the self-damage is especially bad for Warlocks. The five health is (kind of) 2.5 cards. The question isn't "would you play Pit Lord in constructed," it's "would you play Pit Lord in Priest?"

On a shaman deck you can use Hungry Dragon on turn 6+ and then any of your board clear spells. Paladin can use it with consecrate (turn 8+). A mid-range hunter can play it with explosive trap (on turn 6 or earlier if you already played it or popped it with the scientist 2 drop). In a lot of situations (specialy on turn 4) your opponent will come hit you face because they dont have enough attack on board to kill your 5/6 dragon. Only some of the 1-drops have 3+ health so all the options above should work. It gets you a good tempo in late game since board clearing is usualy expensive. On paladin you can also use the new secret (the one that kills his next drop when 4+ creatures are in play) when your opponent has 3 creatures.And yeah, mind control tech.

Considering you were using a Warlock deck as your example use for Hungry dragon, it makes me wonder what the value would be alongside of Shadowflame or Bane of Doom, albeit it is a tad expensive and just plain clumpy for a single kick.

Hey, how about a few "How Good is (Class Name)?" videos? It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on each of the classes, what sorts of strategies they naturally do well at with their available cards, and what sorts of differences there are playing them Arena vs Constructed. They just added a bunch of cards with Blackrock Mountain, so it seems like a good time for something like that. Anyway, thanks for all the videos you've made. Very interesting to watch, even though I am just a casual player. Great stuff.

I always kind of felt that Hungry Dragon would be best in Zoo/Midrange decks, maybe replacing or supplementing Yeti/Piloted Shredder in the 4 spot. Those decks tend to have strong early curves, so that by turn 4 they would probably have enough of a board presence to deal with whatever popped out, while making their Turn 4 tempo swing even harder, and in theory that still works. I certainly had success with it when the card first came out, but the meta's shifted lately away from those sorts of midrange decks, at least except for Zoo, which already has a pretty stacked 4-drop slot. But it worked fine for me when I put it in Midrange Paladin for to replace one of my Shredders. That deck, however, isn't faring well right now in general.

I've been using it in my Tempo Mage deck as my only 4 drop minion with the logic that it's 5 damage for only 4 manner so I feel it's too slow to out in.Also with Tempo Mage there are a lot of cheap removal spells that I'm often going to have in my hand and the hero power itself. Flamwaker with a cheap spell brings an even greater chance to remove the 1 drop that turn. However usually if we're playing it on turn 4 it's going to be almost impossible to deal with the 1 cost minion that turn. Overall I think it's alright. Worth noting I don't have Piloted Shredder but if I did I'd probably just put 2 of them in instead for my only 4 drop minions.

It shows the two sides of the Hungry Dragon and why it's a bad card. Because you play it and there's a chance you just get screwed, otherwise it doesn't perform too fantastically. The lack of consistency is the real flaw with the card.

I have a priest deck and this fits in really well, if the opponent has 3 minions out, I do hungry dragon -> mind control tech. if the opponent has a lot of 2 health minions (or if I have extra spelldamage) I do hungry dragon -> holy nova if I have board control, I just use hungry dragon safely. now I have far from every card unlocked in the game, so there are better options, but for what I have, I feel like it's the best.

Hungry Dragon works great as a Shadow Priest. Imo, it's not worth it if you have to work to clear the spawn (with a spell, or by damaging another minion), but there are a couple ways around it, such as Mind Spike/Mind Shatter as Priest, and Steamwheedle Sniper as Hunter.

The problem with hungry dragon is it essentially gives your opponent a 1 mana creature with charge. They can always attack with it in the next turn, meaning you're very often just playing a 5/4 for 4, which is just a lost tallstrider. You really need to set up a favorable condition in which to play this card, which means it's either unplayable on turn 4 or you're using it as a win more card. This doesn't work for priest, because there's no such thing as tempo priest. For this card to actually be good it either needs to give a 1 mana minion on their turn or has a deathrattle that gives your opponent that minion. Deathrattle part might make the card too good, at that point it might need to gives your opponent a 2 cost minion to be fair.

Hungry dragon is a good card, but playing it on an empty board is not a very good play, considering you most likely won't be able to kill the 1-drop it spawns right away unless it has 1 health and you're a mage, druid or rogue. Therefore, if you already have, say a 3 drop on the board, you will be able to kill the one drop "for free" (if we assume the 1 drop has 2 or less attack) and still have your 3 drop survive while also getting a 5/6 body on the board. Preferably you'd want to have a slightly bulkier minion than a 3 drop, so that it will survive the trade and still have more than 1 health left, but a 3/3 or even a 2/3 will usually do the trick and make hungry dragon a good card.

this is a pretty good card in a priest deck with resurect. goes well with dark cultists and injured blade masters and sunfury taunt girls.

Paladin with hungry dragon works pretty well for me. You tend to have a weapon (truesilver or from muster) to deal with what pops out. You've really just gotta be careful with it and make sure you can deal at least 2 damage.

In that scenario you could play something more reliable like a Yeti and use the Truesilver to kill the next card they play - instead of wasting it on whatever minion Hungry Dragon spawns. D Sandman Once again, 2/3 of the time Hungry Dragon is good value. It's that 1/3 that's that can quite literally lose you the game (especially if you're playing it on Turn 4) that makes a +1/+1 not worth it. That's not even including other factors like it being within SW:Death kill range. "Yet to lose" is a poor indicator of overall results when it's one person vs. countless others (who are forgoing it).

D Sandman I would have agreed this morning, but then today my Hungry Dragons spawned two consecutive shieldbearers which lost me that game. Next game saw them spawn yet another shieldbearer and a flame imp. I sacked them off immediately after. I also begrudge using a charge of my truesilver on whatever 1-drop Hungry Dragon spawns - it feels like a waste to do it but too often it's necessary. The card advantage that that truesilver charge can give me is often more valuable than +1/+1 in stats over, say, a yeti (particularly against all the Mages on ladder who just fireball HG off the board immediately). But maybe I'm just playing the card badly. Anyway, hope it continues to work for you!

I know it's not a good card, but I can't stop using Hungry Dragon. Usually I Muster for Battle on turn 3 and use the Silver Hand recruits to take care of the one drop. I just want that turn 4 5/6.

I kind of like the Hungry Dragon in my dragonpriest deck. I don't really have anything better to run in that slot, and given that I already control the board, I simply kill off the 1-cost that gets spawned. Except in those times when my opponent got a Voidwalker that saved his arse, or an Argent Squire that I couldn't deal with. On top of that, that deck doesn't get me above rank 16... so... yeah.

I play hungry Dragon in a shaman deck. Hungry dragon is a turn five play for me as I will play it then lightning bolt the spawned minion depending on how strong it is.

In Priest it's actually fairly usable, at least in a dragon deck. With Priest you are generally keeping your stuff alive as you trade off with stuff using your hero power, and so very rarely is your board clear on turn four. And playing it off-curve you have access to stuff like SW: Pain, which kills anything Hungry Dragon can pop out, and Nova, which kills most of what comes out of it. Is it great, no. But in the right deck it's way better than Twilight Drake.

c its nice with board control or mage... since all dangers have 1 health. I did get aleper gnome against a hunter and it caused loss, lol. in a priest deck, I have not found it that bad. Only once playing it on an empty board on my side. and the wind fury 3/1 came up behind annoyatron. With priest you get all the value back with resurrect. and blade master deck. It has great resurrect value.

Hungry Dragon is alright in arena, not great, not bad. It's particularly nice in Rogue, just just because you can stab the 1 drop with your equipped weapon, but because you can enrage a Spiteful Smith with the 1 drop, giving your weapon a sweet buff. Other than that, it's still rarely a disaster. I actually think the worst minion to give your opponent is Webspinner, as that is giving your opponent a card draw in exchange for +1/+1. Opponents have given me Stranglethorn Tigers before, and I've heard horror stories of Savannah Highmane or even Gahz'rilla.

I don't think its that bad of a card, its just that its made for a control meta. Whenever I've played it with my dragon warrior against control it does great against belchers, loathebs, cabals, shieldmaeiden or thautisan. I feel its the same for most cards in bm, they are too slow but great vs control.

I still enjoy coining out a turn 3 hungry dragon with 2 Resurrects in my hand as priest. But that's if I didn't already coin out an injured blademaster on turn 2. Yeah, I think he's fun in a resurrect priest deck. And most of the time, you can holy nova after playing him while you're already clearing the board with nova anyway. I agree that he's not the greatest. But he makes for some fun, at least.

I've played 2 Hungry Dragons in my rogue deck...and yeah, Kripps pretty much right. It works (or worked, went on a losing streak today but still positive overall) in the rogue deck because rogues have really cheap ways to deal with crap minions that have low health; so there's a lot more situations where Hungry Dragon's battlecry was nullified, particularly because that deck I used was very eccentric on early game so by turn 4 I always had board control. ALWAYS. Other than that...yeah, it is pretty crap. 5/6 on turn 4 is nice, but unless you're really planning out what your decks strategy is it will be crap 9 times out of 10. You cannot throw a Hungry Dragon into any deck you're building and say, "Yeah, that guy's not gonna bite me in the ass." You just can't.

It's good to remember that Dragon is a tag that isn't going away. It's easy to see them not "printing" mechs anymore but there will be more dragons. Demons were pretty damn bad as a tag for a long time.

I remember an arena against a mage, was on control on the board but a bit on the clock (5 health against oppo 20, but he hadn't played fireball yet so he probably had at least 1 in deck), played hungry dragon and he got webspinner. Why is there a dragon tax in this game? In Magic there's actually a dragon discount - creatures are often 1-2 mana cheaper than they should be if they are dragon type.

Oh please, the minion that the dragon summons is 99% of the time a simple 1/1, 2/1 or 1/2 with no fearsome ability. I use it (for the kicks, I admit) in my paladin swarm deck where I combo it often enough with Solemn Vigil, Volcanic Dragon and Sea Giant.

I think there is an easier way here Kripp. Just use a weapon on it. Hunters or warriors will just bow or axe the silly 1 drop and this suddenly becomes the best 4 drop in the game for tempo.

In order for Hungry Dragon to be comparable to Chillwind Yeti, it should probably have been 6/7. Although since it's a _hungry_ dragon, I would have had it start off with low stats, eat an enemy minion with low(no more than 2, I'd say) health, and add that minion's stats to the hungry dragon. In other words, it swoops in out of nowhere, swallows an enemy in one bite, and is ready for action.

Why is Hungry Dragon worse than the Fireguard Destroyer when coming out of the Sky Golem? The battle cries aren't triggered so it's just a 5/6 or a 3/6. Why is the 5/6 worse?

I feel like Hungry Dragon does have some playable windows, they're just average compared to other dragon cards. Higher dragons like volcanic drake are near unplayable in constructed until you've seen their removal conditions go away - 2 fireballs, flamestrike, BGH, etc. Hungry Dragon is a little unique in that he has no hard removals short of PW: Death, and if your opponent plays Death on a Hungry Dragon, gg. Azure Drake is easier to remove, but has way more value, and Twilight Drake is silence bait. Where Hungry Dragon shines is with really good board control and preplanned removal. Let's take dragon paladin for example, because everyone's tried it. You got out a Shielded Mini-Bot turn 2 and a Blackwing Tech turn 3, and you've managed to disrupt your opponent enough to either clear the board or damn close. So it's turn 4, you have an unshielded Mini-Bot and a 3/2 Blackwing left or something, and they have some scrub 3 drop out. You know anything Hungry Dragon summons will be easy removal bait short of a 0/4 taunt. Go for it. Odds are you lose the mini-bot, which did its job by removing 2 creatures, and you got a 5/6 for it, which wrecks most 4 and 5 drops, buying you time to setup for late game. Tl;dr - with some removal set up and some tempo pre-turn 4, Hungry Dragon can make a great investment into your midgame. Look at it like "I'm betting X amount of tempo to gain 2X tempo with decent probability."

I don't see why he keeps saying that dragons have reduced value due to them being dragons. Sure, if you compare them to certain mechs, it might seem that way, but that just goes to say that cards like Shredder are a tad OP. If you compare them to vanilla minions, I don't see much difference in value, really.

the past few videos that you have posted have shown you have some dislike for the current speed of constructed. i have to agree with this, i enjoy playing more controlling decks and the current speed of face decks. i've been experimenting with a warlock deck using summoning portal + mana wraith and nerub'ar. very bad deck but very fun =).

I don't really get the gameplay in this video. One clip of Hungry Dragon being good but Kripp misplayed and lost, and one where it was above average. Doesn't really fit with what was said in the first portion of the video.

Hungry Dragon would be a good card, if instead of summoning a random 1-cost minion, it summoned just like a 1-1 dragon for exemple.
