I once had sleep paralysis and i imagined Kripparian slowly slithering up to me and i felt the brush of his wirey beard press against my chest and his boulder-like face was a miillimeter away from mine and he whispered "..He had the perfect cards" then drained all my RNG power right out of my chest. I cried for days.

Misplay imo at 9:45 - Pinging the acolyte then trading - had he just pinged the 2/1, and traded the loot hoarder, he could've done 5 face damage by keeping the acolyte alive. He then has lethal next turn (5 again, plus hero power = 6). And by keeping the acolyte alive, he had the option of later pinging and trading to draw cards if the situation was desperate. Yes he was digging for frostbolt, but he could've dug the next turn.

Although the example with the bomber is extreme, it's symptomatic of why this game has such a low skill ceiling. There's so much RNG in this game, even more than ever with GvG, that skill is severely diluted compared to non random games.
@DATskorge9 жыл бұрын
RNG adds skill ceiling. It's like poker. Yes, it can fuck you from time to time. But the most knowledgeable players will play the odds and come out on top more often than not. That's skill. And it's also the nature of a card game.
@LightningGentleman9 жыл бұрын
The notion that the most skillful player wins a video game every time they play it is ridiculous. There's no gaming equivalent of Achilles that has played 10,000 competitive matches of something and never lost. Like the previous guy said, with a game like Hearthstone, you generally look at a lot of games over time to determine a player's skill. As a mediocre player, I generally get something around 4-5 win arenas and am around 55-60% win rate overall. Kripp has a high 70s percent of arena wins, and that's damn impressive.
@thevoxdeus9 жыл бұрын
Actually, there are video games like Street Fighter or Starcraft in which a clearly superior player will win 100% of the games against an average opponent, assuming both players are actually trying. In fact, even players who are in the top 1% worldwide will rarely ever beat the very best players at these games. Similarly for Chess or Go or other completely non random games. A master at those games will have a win rate against average opponents that's close to perfect, whereas even a highly skilled player like Kripparian will never manage more than 80-90% against even terrible players in Hearthstone, because RNG can bail them out a significant portion of the time. Secondly, the fact that you can generally make a determination about who is best over a long run of games doesn't really counter my point, since I didn't claim that Hearthstone is a pure random game without any skill. Calling a coin toss is a completely random game. Chess is a completely non random game. Hearthstone lies between the two, and it's a lot closer to coin flipping than a game that lacks random elements or has limited random elements, like Starcraft or Street Fighter. It's not as close to coin flipping as a game like Candyland, were there are virtually no decisions to be made at all, but it's still pretty low skill. So either you misunderstood what I said (which is hard to believe, because it's a very short post) or you completely misunderstand the role of random luck vs skill in game design, which seems to be clearly the case. Either way, you're wrong.
@BulbaBryan9 жыл бұрын
thevoxdeus 100% is ridiculous. That would apply to noobs, not average players. Against average players the win rate is more like 90%.
@thevoxdeus9 жыл бұрын
NGE Fan No, really. An average chess player will never beat a top grand master if the GM is trying. An average street fighter player will never beat Daigo or PR-Rog, if those players are trying. An average Starcraft 2 player will never beat Life or MarineKing. Hell, Daigo went years without dropping even a single tournament match, and he was playing hundreds a year, against the very best players on two continents (as far as I know he didn't generally travel to Europe for tourneys). When you take the random element out of it, the gap between the very best people on earth and the average person is so huge that nothing can surpass it. Whoever you want to pick as the very best Hearthstone player will still drop a significant number of games (5 to 10%) against average opponents playing the exact same deck, because at the end of the day, your opening draw and the results of certain swing cards (like an early game bomber) can swing the game so dramatically that the game is over before skill can assert itself.

Arena supposedly matches you up with people that have the same, or at least similar, records as your own. Kripp's own record was 7-0, so it's likely that his opponent was also 7-0.
