Why Kolento didn't keep deadly poison in the second game?

if he's expecting tempo mage he doesn't wanna face the minions cuz mage can burst, poison doesn't help against mirror images much, it doesn't kill Flamewaker and he can get frozen. better have shadow strike, backstab and eviscerate.

freeze mage with kobold? is this common now?

Freeze mage is not common at all, mostly because there are loads of warriors around (and they lost mad scientist which is huge) but this is the first time I have seen kobold being used, although it fits the deck really good for cheap finisher combos when you are about a fireball short. Never tested it but IMO I can see it working
