Kripps being way too generous in trying to apply the Blizzard method of nerfing. The knife juggler should become a 1/1 that throws knifes at any character(yours included). The Mysterious Challenger should be a 3/3 for 8 mana and give you a single secret from your deck. Force of Nature should cost ten mana and summon a single 0/0 minion....which obviously dies instantly. Piloted Shredder should become a 1 mana 0/1 that summons Ragnaros on the opponents side once it dies. Those are Blizzard level nerfs.

My personal favorite idea is to attach a Joust to Mysterious Challenger. Then it fits into the style of TGT and it also inhibits super aggro decks, because Paladin would have to add some high drops to increase the chance of the joust working. It would also justify the 6/6 stats for 6, because it's battlecry wouldn't always occur.

This video is wrong. Most of these are not Blizzard nerfs. Remember what Ben Brode said, the SOUL of the card is the 2 - 3 stats, so you CANNOT change the stats of the minions. Change the mana cost, change the effect, but GOD FORBID you change the actual SOUL of the card. Because everyone used Warsong Commander because it was a 2 - 3 for 3.

Is it just me or is this a really bitter video? I think you can make a point that Blizzard completely changed the card instead of just simply nerfing it, but I don't think you can argue that they tend to nerf by making cards unplayable. Unleash the Hounds, Undertaker...pretty much all other cards that Blizzard has nerfed are still playable, just no longer absolutely broken. The fact that this one was just removed and replaced with something unplayable is unfortunate, but hardly pattern.

+Eric Bess Exactly what I was thinking, and glad to see I'm not the only one who noticed it (even though I had to wade through a lot of comments to find this). I don't even know why Kripp cares so much about that stupid card. Yes, the card is unplayable now... So what? They essentially removed the card from the game - because it made the game less fun. And the fact that they didn't make the new version playable only means that they didn't just randomly add a new, good card into the game. Just play ANYTHING other than Patron Warrior, and that change doesn't affect you in the slightest (except for the fact that you won't run into any Patron Warriors)

He's basically just calling Blizzard devs and Ben Brode in particular names because of the way they handled that one card, and that is unnecessarily respectless, because they are still the ones that have created all the good things that make us love this game so much, even if we don't agree with that one decision.

Meh, the force of nature nerf is too big for a class card. More likely Summon three 2/2 for 5 mana would be the play for blizzard. It doesn't have charge and is very easily aoe'd/hero powered/outplayed by mid minions and deathrattles. If they nerfed it to 6 for 6 on spread of 3 it would be like losing tempo. People wouldn't play it. (Pally is a 1/4 weapon and 3 1/1 minions on turn 3!!!!) They would likely give it a 5 for 6 of stats if ever they nerfed it.

+SRNF The issue was that the text allowed it to give any minion that starts with 3 or less attack Charge. It should be: "Minions with 3 or less attack have Charge" as that deals with the Mega Frothing Berserker play and means you can't inner rage a patron and get it to Charge, AND YET IT DOESN'T COMPLETELY DESTORY PATRON WARRIOR. It makes Patron far less good, it stays true to what the card design SHOULD have been, and means that warrior doesn't have a completely trash-tier card. But no, Blizzard is too lazy to even attempt to balance cards. Much rather erase it from existance. I am highly disappointed in Ben Brode. His craven and slothful soul disgusts me. "But if it's a subtle change, people might not notice. And as people are stupid, this would be bad, as they will get angry and lost and confused that it doesn't work quite the same way as before." I don't think I agree with your "blizzard" style nerfs. You should have probably titled it "super nerf" or something. When blizzard nerfed the Warsong Commander they didn't just make it suck, they completely removed its fundamental ability, completely changing the card into its currently unplayable form. Knife juggler could be like a 2 mana 3/2 with battlecry deal 1 damage Mysterious challenger: lose ability, Stealth. Or better yet, Battlecry: Gain Stealth, so cheating it out remains as bad as it currently is. Mad Scientist is harder to nerf without just taking away the ability (and sticking to my theme of not changing stats, just fundamentally changing the card). How about the ability changes to "when a secret is revealed, return this minion to full life" Your force of nature nerf was pretty spot on, I think it completely changes the way the card can be used, while still keeping with the original theme (though the treants currently die because they have timed life, we can forget that) It's hard to justify a change to piloted shredder without also changing piloted skygolem in a similar fashion. Once again, keeping to changing the way the cards fundamentally play, we definitely need to not summon a minion. Giving the minion to the enemy isn't bad since it keeps the theme of the card. The only other vaguely themed nerf I could give it is lose the summon effect, change it to deal 1 dmg to all creatures (self destruct). Skygolem could gain the abomination effect for a bigger explosion. Some of your "blizzard" nerfs (juggler and challenger mostly) didn't really change the fundamental use of the card the way the warsong nerf obliterated the card. Juggler could still be an undervalue card that could participate in combos still (unleash, for example) and challenger still does its secret bullshit. Sure, Challenger on an empty board wouldn't become a 10/7 with a 2/1, but it could still be shoehorned into doing what it already does a lot of the time. Warsong is literally a body now, with no semblance of its previous combo-ability.

Aggressive decks have always been the most 'new player/casual player friendly' versions of any metagame on almost every card game I've ever played. And control decks (particularly slow/grindy ones) have been what puts off these new/casual players off the most. Don't forget also who's usually the 80% of players who produce income for these types of games, and there's your answer on why hearthstone, the epitome of casual 'strategy' games has almost always been biased towards aggressive decks being benefitted the most.

I believe the most important reason to nerf warsong was that it limits the design space for future cards. As Ben Brode said, dreadsteed was initially going to be a neutral card but because of the limitation of design space created by warsong, it was not possible. I'm sure blizzard have some future card ideas that are now viable because of this nerf. However I completely agree that the warsong nerf was way too hard, they really did kill the card to oblivion. I also find it quite frustrating that Ben Brode always talks about keeping common cards very simple for newer players. Hearthstone is like to easiest to understand card game ever. The words on the card pretty much say it all. I guess if your just starting to learn English, yes some cards may be hard to understand, but I'm sure most of the people playing hearthstone are older than 5 years old. For example.. Old "complex" warsong - whenever you summon a minion with 3 or less attack, give it charge New "simple" warsong - your charge minions have +1 attack Yes, the old one is slightly more complicated, but it really does not take any more brainpower to decipher the text. For those people that are not bothered to understand the "complex" card effect I think card games are not for them. Ben and the team need to stop treating new hearthstone players like they were born yesterday.
