I disagree entirely. I'm a relatively mediocre player and I find it hard to go far in arena even with what are considered pretty good arena decks. RNG decides a lot, but sometimes it's one single turn that can decide the game, and it's much harder to make the best possible play consistently when you're a newer player. Better players don't do anything fantastic, so they seem like any other player. But what they do, is make the best possible play very consistently. That's what differentiates a good player from a not so good player.

Your advice is rather than having two players with a fairly balanced card and skill set play a match, newer players should just smack their heads into the wall into luck drops onto their side? The problem with one player having these epic/legendary options is when both players have good draws or bad draws and tempo is the place, then you get completely smashed in tempo by epics and legendaries with much better stat lines and less of a catch compared to the newer players. There is nothing wrong with having a newbie friendly mode, or blizzard giving new players the tools to help catch up perhaps by rotating "Free" decks for a limited time in the way that Riot in League of legends rotates heroes. Deck rotation, say weekly. Lets give an example of Control warrior this is a VERY hard deck to learn and to gather the cards for because the cost of many of the cards, It'd give newer players a way to play these decks find out if they like the style before committing to buying more cards, Dev's and players alike could submit "fun decks" that will still be able to win as the new weeks free deck and it'll give the game more people playing more decks. I'd even look into people who only play one account who don't have many cards (this excludes me) into having a benefit playing those decks perhaps a cheaper crafting cost if you get 50+ games with a certain deck, discount some of the classic cards for crafting or fix some packs so they open that decks cards for the next 2-5 packs they open. (or even give them a little more luck percentage in the legendary department if they have less than 5 legendaries not including adventures) Last night i was playing to get to rank 15 for giggles, and i found i could either play some decks that i enjoyed preist control/mage discover etc or i could play decks i'd get quick wins getting to rank 15 as quickly as possible my mid range hunter and scum bag paladin. Both the latter i really dislike playing, While i like mid range hunter more than paladin i spend much time playing that deck for gold rewards. So i hope the new expansion changes the meta and mixes up more decks and "go for face" decks that are flooding right now or at least give control decks some more tools but i also think by allowing free decks to rotate for players (1/2 year and under?) would help give those players options and put more varied decks into the meta. Only down fall would be that counter decks would be popular among trolls so some careful thought put into each deck rotated so that any counters for that get destroyed by almost every deck in current meta. (The rotating decks i imagine would be modifiable or only select 'tech cards' modifications which might counter above.)

You don't jump at every opportunity of a 1 drop, but when you've to chose between 2 good cards and one is a 1-2 drop the other a 4-5 drop, you should consider the power of a good opener and probably go with the cheaper drops - even if the 4-5 drop maybe better relatively.

How to get a good opener in Hearthstone? Be lucky :) If you're not, don't play the game. It's the same in arena and constructed. You change the cards and hope for good ones and you hope that your opponent gets nothing. That's the whole strategy guys.
