If I may add: Longxin and Deathwing are insane in dragon comp. Deathwing with taunt and heal relic can ignore anything attack related. Longxin is very versatile with "heals" (swap) and destroys protectors faster than onyxia.

As someone who recently got into Mercenaries, i'm a bit surprised to not see Beasts on the list. I started playing it because it frankly was the first thing i was able to play. Usually i'm using Crush/Trigore/Anacondra or Mukla, and you can brute force a lot of encounters or fish for infinite damage by getting "Attack until it dies" on Crush in combination with Mukla's third ability.

They were kind of playable for FWh farm at release. But got no support later on.

You'll notice both trigore and anacondra in other teams, they are definitely strong, but it is much easier to lose mercs in the harder levels compared to baine trigore. I think beasts should have been on the list somewhere though, it's probably only a little weaker than murlocs

I'd like to add that for dragon comp you can bench Long'Xin (3) instead of Onyxia. Because Nefarian summons an add every turn, if one of your mercs dies due to an oppressive boss mechanics, you can get a lot of aSPD and after that use either his 1st or 2nd ability.

In general, my favorite comp is Holy. I love being able to deal damage while healing at the same time. The addition of Tyrael also allows for a freeze effect every other turn, which is pretty strong in certain fights. And Xyrella is a strong backup or even starter if she gets Subjugation. I just try to avoid any Elite Fighters. Also, Doppelgangsters on the maps that have them (they are the absolute bane of my existence). I've heard that Yrel is pretty strong too, but I haven't upgraded her enough to really know for sure. Overall, though, I use Holy to climb in most bounties.

Only reason I haven't spent much time with Y'rel yet is that I don't have her Holy Damage equip yet.

Have you tried the Trigore pirates comp? Other than heroic blue Naga, it can quickly clear any battle. May Need to switch Edwin and Hooktusk position based on enemy positioning. The key is to let Maestra and Trigore take care of the unit opposite Hooktusk. Let Hooktusk switch with red so Trigore can crit it. Many thanks for the updated overview! may I ask on an other composition: how about "Old Gods" ? especially now with the new C'thun-event going on ? I already tried Y'Shaarj, N'Zoth and Yogg'Saron, though it turned out, that the abilities may sound nice with all the reduce-cooldown-synergy going on, but the composition was rather too slow and especially against casters, Y'Shaarj was taking too much critical damage, before they could kill 1 or 2 enemies for Yogg to heal up :( Furthermore, I had the impression that N'zoth was not adding much to the fight, as there are not many enemy minions in most cases he could dominate... so I guess replacing him with C'thun could make the "Old Gods"-team work a bit better ? especially as they are then all 3 colors and C'thun can also add some healing for the team, not only Yogg. Would be nice to hear your opinion about this - maybe even as separate Old-Gods-comparison-video or so ? as I haven't found anything like that yet in your list of videos (I guess C'thun-event is too fresh to already can compare this mercenary in depth...) - many thanks in advance ! :)

RIP Shadow As long as Nature can find a treasure to either add Serpent's Bite to your Nature abilities or double-cast Lightning Bolt, I say 'Who cares that it's slow, you're going to be grinding them down with inevitability, ESPECIALLY with added Bites triggering double heals from Malfurion!" The other nice thing Chi'ji gives is that if, for some reason, you need to have Ragnaros sit out something (maybe you REALLY don't want to run him into triple-Blues), then Chi'ji can start combos with Geddon, which frees up Balinda to throw out Fire Weakness instead of having to start the combo herself.

Maybe I should have included Vol'jin/Azshara/Kazakus Shadow comp but it has some issues with climbing against some encounters.

I know you like to skip elite fights, but I love taking them when I play fire. Reds are cake with Geddon, Greens get wiped by Rag. Blues, depending on when you fight them in the run/treasures can be rough occasionally. You can run into teams that all act before your elemental can freeze one, or even if you freeze one the remaining ones will get off enough damage round two to kill Rag. The simple and easiest solution that is always effective…just bench Rag and use Chi-Ji for the blue elites. Between having no mercs who can get crit and Chi-Ji’s healing, I haven’t lost anyone yet. Because neither Geddon nor Rag is criting on the blues, Rag rarely finishes anyone off round one anyway, so the fights aren’t really longer, just super safe.

Cookie has Appetizers equipment that gives all your Mercs extra Health even when Cookie is on the bench.

The comps show the Mercs you need for them. You can fill the other slots with Mercs you want coin for or try to unlock equipment for.

You typically always want carry slots in PvE for equipment or coins. You fill the team with what you need.

You can do that, but for the most part you fill the slots for rewards. Many Mercs unlock equipment from Heroic bounties, but they need to be in your party to get the unlock. So you bring them in for that one. Also, you get one slot of coins for a random Merc in your party at the end of each bounty, so you bring Mercs that you still want coins for to have a chance to get coins for them. They often do not contribute anything to the fights, they're there just for the rewards.

I've just been playing Y'shaarj/Azshara/Kazakus as a "shadow" team, with Tamsin & Vol'jin on the bench. I guess it's like the "Y'shaarj comp," only it trades some quickness for durability. Thanks to Azshara's spell power buffs, Kazakus starts hitting quite hard after 1-2 turns of sacrificing lesser golems, and you also get to heal at least 12 every turn. I mostly use Y'shaarj to taunt up (with the "gain attack when getting attacked" equipment) if I'm facing mercs that attack a lot; as an added benefit it also goes before Azshara's A3 so it'll push it back and boost its damage. While Azshara can do a big aoe with A3 on turn2, games usually last 3 turns, since the abilities aren't as synergistic as in the Fire comp, where Rag will clean up after Geddon's AoE. It's probably not super optimized, but I like it.

Why would I need a carry comp? I make comps out of 4 heroes I have tasks for + 2 helpful ones. And go for heroics i can and need to farm. Or every non-heroic. And i got like 30-40 30-lvl-heroes in collection. Just farming with a killer-comp is boring and makes no sense.

For yshaarj team I prefer use galvangar, it's a total of + 20 attack and he is more useful than kazakus 🤔

In a way, yes. Cookie makes everything better because it gives you additional Health. It is not impossible to play without it, and sometimes you end up cutting it if you really need to bring something specific, but whenever there is room, Cookie is a great addition.
