RedBeard is the self proclaimed Hearthstone Arena Champion and #1 player in the world so I thought I would have him guess how good Marvel Snap cards are. Hearthstone and Marvel Snap are quite different, and the game is quite difficult to explain to someone who has never played it before, but I thought this would be interesting regardless! Also TY to Rarran for the video idea!

People are sleeping on how good Jubilee is because they don't understand what the card actually does. If you extrapolate her text to say "Draw a card from your deck, then put that card into play" it becomes more obvious why she's good. Drawing cards in Snap is extremely good due to the deck size, which is why the two other cards that allows you to draw more cards from your deck are value loss cards (and why most "draw" cards actually generate cards). Jubilee however is a value positive card that also draws, which is nuts.

Also my favourite card due to energy cheat - I have a deck which flew me through 30 tiers with quicksilver and domino - meant jubilee almost always played a 5 or 6 energy card and allowed combos not usually possible

Not sure if deks told you this but it was edited out, but when a card is summoned in snap, if it has an on reveal (battlecry) it still triggers, unlike in HS. This is a big diff and it still catches me off guard every once in a while.
@H2oW
@H2oW Жыл бұрын
As an ex HS player i know it's hard to value a lot of snap cards because HS is all about tempo while snap is more combo and synergy oriented. Two 3 drops in HS are often more valueable than a 6 Cost while in Snap cards have a much higher power budget the closer they get to turn 6.

While Yondu isn’t great in a vacuum isn’t great, his effect is considered a destroy, so he is utilized in Death decks as a cheap way to grab 1 discount, potentially 2 with Carnage/Killmonger. I’d liken the Pools to different HS expansions, like Pool 1 being Classic and Pool 2 being Naxxramas.

Feel like Yondu is kinda under rated (not saying he is *good*, just under rated). While it is true that in other games burning cards from deck is worthless, in marvel snap, because you only have one copy of a card per deck, the information that Yondu gives is so much more valuable. It is so satisfying when Yondu burns a key finisher or a counter card, because you know then that you won't have to play around that card. He's definitely not a strong consideration to include in most decks, but in the hands of a meta-knowledgable player, the info Yondu give can be invaluable. I personally use him in my *Weenie Bounce* deck, and burning two cards is really satisfying. You can deck your opponent out
@mooglemage6456
@mooglemage6456 Жыл бұрын
I think the main issue is the fact that he could possibly make it easier to draw your more important cards by getting rid of something you didn't need. But of course that can also work in reverse.
@shrewdagency6588
@shrewdagency6588 Жыл бұрын
Yes. Exactly. The information is the important part. Especially if some meta decks are too dependent on a few key pieces. Taking out a Knull or Shang Chi can feel especially good for instance coupled with a decent draw your side can tilt you more confidently into a quick snap . Doesn't always work but a solid card up until a certain level.

The biggest problem with Quicksilver is that he is just a 1 mana 2 power and that's it, but you are garanteed that you WILL spend 1 draw to get him. So even if you already have another 1 drop in hand turn 1, you are still losing 1 draw with something that's not really helping you win. There are some videos calculating the effect he has in reducing the odds of you drawing other specific cards, and it's really bad.

I was going to comment something like this myself. Having your best turn 2 and 3 plays are often worth skipping turn 1 in most decks, especially if you're teching Killmonger in pool 2 to help win those Kazar matchups. While Chavez increases your early game consistency by playing an 11 card deck for the first five turns, Quicksilver decreases the odds of your optimal plays.
@Wakrar
@Wakrar Жыл бұрын
@@Zeekfox Exactly. And as you pointed out, Chavez increases early game consistance, but she actually hinders your chances of getting a specific card by turn 6. That is, if your deck relies in a piece that you should get by turn 6 (for instance, Odin in On Reveal decks, or Destroyer/Spectrum in Ongoing), than it's actually a bad idea running her.

Fun video! Tho one thing I would add: Make sure to show the person the base cards that have no ability, for every Energy Cost, so they have a good idea of what a base "stats for the cost" would be, and then they can value the ability of the cards, and if they're worth it or not. In this case, those would be: 1 Cost - Misty Knight 2 Cost - Shocker 3 Cost - Cyclops 4 Cost - The Thing 5 Cost - Abomination 6 Cost - The Hulk

I feel like Yondu killing a combo piece is more likely in Snap due to the limited deck size and the fact that every card is more important makes it more likely to cause a big disruption. I've sniped Destroyers, Deaths, Cerebros and Waves with my Yondus, all key cards in making my opponents decks work.
@timothyelmer5469

I personally don't agree on Yondu being bad, mainly because besides having good stats and the chance of removing a key card of your opponent's deck, "removing" the card counts towards Death's discount effect (costs 1 less), which can sometimes win you the game if you get unlucky with the other draws and struggle destroying cards

Eh, I think Yondu is pretty good. 1 energy cards are pretty good for extending your turn actions, and allowing to make use of those "meaningless" early turns. You have a 12 card deck. There's a pretty good chance of you killing off a key combo card that either ruins their entire deck, or 1 of their few combo synergys. On the otherhand, using Yondu is pretty terrible. There are many times I feel like I would have won 4 or 8 points for the match, but Yondu hits the opponent's key card and makes them rage quit giving you a measly 1 point victory instead.

Honestly, though I don't often run Youndu, when you have a 12 card deck, removing one or with some combos or locations multiple cards from your opponent, it can really mess up some of their combos or plans. It takes away potentially a lot from your opponent, and that can hold a lot of value to you. But still it's not top tier by any means.

I think you're underestimating Yondu, he can work like Iceman and completely ruin your opponent's plays or show you what kind of deck they're playing early so you can plan around it. If he destroys Hela or Destroyer, Wong, Mystique, any of their power cards you both get to see it and get a peek at what their deck will be and possibly ruin their whole strategy and force them to rely on a different win condition.

As a Marvel Snap player, I felt like I would have had a hard time answering Jubilee and Infinaut. They’re both… decent? Like, neither one is one that you could just throw in any old deck, but if Hela or Lockjaw are getting involved? They can definitely be built around. I think the hardest part of a non-Snap player reviewing Sera is there is they don’t know how many amazing 3-4 cost tech cards exist. You have prio? Let’s spend 2 mana to drop a Cosmo or a 3 cost Enchantress to counter their Wong lane where they’re about to drop Silver Surfer. Don’t have prio? 3 cost Shang Chi sounds great, and you can always use that Enchantress to destroy an Iron Man or a Darkhawk.

Imo yondu could be really good IF it wasn't so heavily rng dependant. You can easily remove an important card they may have needed/wanted to use or make another turn where they now draw a brick card if the next one isn't one they can currently use anymore ect, but, just as easily you can destroy a card they didn't need/want and sometimes even HELP them get cards/combos they wanted or even sometimes needed to win sooner. If it wasn't as heavenly rng dependant and more often removed important cards then i could see it being decent, but where it stands right now the rng factor just doesn't make it worth it with how little it does more often than not.

A little late, but one of the biggest reason Quicksilver is so bad is because there isn’t card draw. Always drawing quicksilver allows you to have a turn 1 play; the tradeoff is not only is 2 power for 1 not that huge of a benefit, but now you have a lower chance of drawing your good cards. America Chavez gives you an 11 card deck for 5 turns, which improves your draw. Quicksilver takes away a draw instead

As someone with far too much experience in this game, I gotta extrapolate a bit of insight on these cards. Quicksilver: This card is not just bad. Putting him in your deck actively harms your draw consistency. "Tempo", as it exists in other card games, does NOT EXIST in Marvel Snap. The ONLY value to playing cards early is for initiative (or niche case adam warlock). However, initiative is frequently something you DON'T want (see shang chi or enchantress, being better if played after the opponent rather than before). Quicksilver can be seen as "replace a better card you could have drawn with a 1/2 that has no ability". In a game with so few cards in a deck, synergy is absolutely critical. Especially when there is limited board space. This guy just takes up 1/4 of a location like "sup. I can only hold you back from here". In fact, many decks in marvel snap will only have 0 or 1 1 drop or even 2 drop because the relative benefit of those cards are so minor and insignificant that they aren't worth playing over more impactful cards through the course of a 6-turn game. I would consider America Chavez: This card is okay. Great when you need cards before turn 6, especially if you need two combo pieces, but otherwise she is not played much in higher (collection) level of play due to the fact that many of the major win conditions are turn 6 plays. The only decks that I can think of that actually run her in later stages of the game are deathwave (which I've seen many players switch her for magneto + leader) and dracula+apocalypse. Yondu: This card is in a weird spot. Very bad card exactly for the reasons stated in the video (imagine yondu says "destroy the bottom card of the opponent's deck", they wouldn't have drawn that card anyway!) but still has the bug that he discounts Death, which makes him very useful and actually a high tier card. Otherwise, yeah... completely trash. Jubilee: I love this card. She is incredibly powerful since she is one of the very few ways of thinning the deck in the game and can pull out a win on the spot. HOWEVER she also blocks two location slots, and if she pulls a bad card, it is a big waste of a high impact turn. She had an amazing use with lockjaw when she cycled herself into lockjaw if she pulled him out, but without that... she's just okay. 4 drops are rather weak in general right now, so she will probably be played for a while, but I can see her being phased out of decks in the future. The Infinaut: Actually goated card to cheat out with hela or lady sif + ghost rider. Can still win with him quite often hard playing him by passing on 5 and playing on 6, but he is what I call a "low cube-rate card". While you can get nearly guaranteed wins with him, he's extremely predictable. With the "retreat" mechanic in Marvel Snap, opponents will leave the game before you can even play him, therefore costing you cubes that you could have won with a less predictable final turn (such as zero + red skull). He's playable with dracula, but that's more of a meme than dracula + apocalypse. Destroyer: Completely meta card lol armor + cosmo + professor x enables him too hard. Sera: Maybe best card in the game before the latest patch. Because of the gambling "snap" mechanic, having a surprising final turn is key to winning cubes. Sera enables so many different playlines for the last turn that it is almost impossible to predict what the sera player will do. Very underrated card. I think a good card for new players to analyze is Captain Marvel versus a card like Vision. Captain Marvel: 5 Energy 6 power "At the end of the game, move to a location that wins you the game. (If possible)" Vision: 5 Energy 6 power "You can move this each turn." They have extremely similar effects and if you can predict exactly where to move vision, he is technically almost always better than captain marvel. However because of how the snapping mechanic works, captain marvel is a MUCH better card. While vision will win you more games due to the +1 power, the confidence captain marvel can give you when not having to guess on 50/50 situations will allow you to snap to win between 2x and 4x as many cubes as vision would allow in those games. Winrate is nowhere near as important in marvel snap, meaning some cards that excel in consistency can end up being terrible cards for climbing the ranked ladder. If your opponents fold their hand every game, you'll slowly gain money. But if you can tease them into thinking they have a shot and seize the pot at the end... that's where the real money is :)

A lot of comments are saying that Yondu is "actually good because you have a higher chance of hitting a combo piece because it's a smaller deck". Counterargument: you also have an even higher chance of hitting something that ISNT a combo piece and instead increasing the chances that the opponent draws into their combo piece that they wouldn't have drawn otherwise. Plus, the opponent can see which card is being destroyed, allowing them to play around either not having the combo piece and not relying on it or retreating for only 1 cube, or simply knowing it's very likely they'll draw it and play around drawing it

I think you're short-selling Yondu a smidge. Shorting the opponent a card might not actually do anything, but you get to see the card that's removed. Knowing what your opponent is playing starting turn 1 has value. Also, it isn't currently a thing, but if we hit a critical mass of effects like him and Cable, stopping the opponent from drawing by ensuring there's nothing TO draw might become viable.

Yeah, I definitely foresee a future in Snap where interfering with your opponent's deck in this manner is a viable strat, reducing their draw to essentially nothing so they can only rely on what they have in hand would ruin so many decks.

Well, but you only see the card you don't have to play around, which is nice if it is Shang or Killmonger, and it also gives you a hint of what deck you are facing. But your opponent now knows the 11-card deck they are playing with, they can now play knowing which card they will not draw, so even burning key combo card is still better than having to hope they draw into it but don't. Your opponent gets much better info than you do. (I won't go into "it does not matter if you burn top or bottom card that you were not going to see anyway", since you seem to understand it).

@@HeroDarkStorn That last bit of your first sentence was pretty much the only bit I was concerned with. I don't know how relevant it is to be going into turn two with the knowledge that your opponent is almost definitely playing a move deck as opposed to a destroy deck or whatever, I just know that seeing one card WILL generally give you a pretty good indication. Really, the only point I'd level against it is that it's value drops TREMENDOUSLY if he's not in your opening hand, meaning it's a card that's not good 2/3 of the time. I DO have to check something though. When the game launched, I'm pretty sure Yondu triggers ticked up my quest completion rate for "cards destroyed". If the game actually considers that to be the case, Yondu ramping out Death is a consideration.

Why is Yondu considered so bad?? Like I would assume removing a card, potentially a key card like Wave or Zola or Wong or Sera or any combo piece a good thing? isn't disruption a good thing?

Your thinning their deck in other words every time you don’t hit wave or Zola or wong you effectively drew them their wave or Zola or Wong.
