[Hearthstone] Tempo Dominance

Tempo has been the dominant play style in arena since GvG and it's unlikely to change. As more cards are released, the chance that your opponent has a good answer to your tempo is lower, making the faster play stronger. This is why I like Warlock so much in arena. You can run all the cheap early game stuff (particularly the op Imp Gang Boss), and you can also compete if you need to go to the long game because your hero power is so good. All you need is tempo and a little healing to get out of range of burn.

Alexandre Gareau but the mage requires certain style of deck ( and luck ) to avoid running out of cards at some point in the game. the warlock can play minions cost two to fight the table in early game . to the point where you can use hero power play a 4+ cost minion.

Yea OP and Wiki it sounds like you guys have no idea what tempo is at all. Warlock really is not the best deck for tempo. Remember that time warlock tempo dominated..... No I don't either. Mage is the best for tempo due to their cheap burst and ability to ping minions off the board. Tempo is about maintaining board control. Playing a bunch of cheap minions and refilling your hand afterwards sounds more like a zoo/aggro deck. Tempo is all about value. The idea is you're always somewhat ahead and your opponent constantly has to deal with your minions. Loatheb is a great example of tempo. You force them to commit something to the board or just hero power. Either way on your next turn you have the upper hand.

Semyon Galtsev I think we have to wait till the last wing comes out, as I see it being fantastic in a priest deck. The hungry dragon gives you a guaranteed target to cabal shadow priest. (Except for shadowbomber etc..) So if you have coin and can turn 5 cabal, that tempo swing is insane!

Jackson McDonald i think its really good in priest but rather for its overall stats than cabal shananigans...usually the token wont survive anyways but if so its a cool bonus...usually you will use your next turn to heal up the dragon 90% of the time which will be a better play usually...HD is so good because it contests belchers and about every other 5-6 drops in the game that are relevant right now (thaurissan)

You nailed it with the video Kripp, i have been doing arena non stop for a while now and its pretty much impossible to come back from a game without a good board clear and a better follow up than your opponent, these days even flamestrike won't save you. A Turn 7 flamestrike means no board presence and if anything survives on the opponent side of the field then you are pretty much dead.

Hey I'd like advice on a choice. I've made a Dragon Paladin deck. I don't know the definition of tempo but it seems to be a tempo deck. I try every turn to get a certain minion or spell on board every turn. Like turn 3 Blackrock technician and turn 4 truesilver. But I also have kinda aggro stuff like Hungry Dragon. My legendaries atm in the deck are Loatheb, Thaurissan, Chromaggus and Tirion. So the choice is which big dragon legendary should I craft for the deck?

Nick Whelan I would say naxx, Cards you get from there seem to be more usefull for starters imo . Sludge belchers , loateb , shade of naxx ,haunted creepers and Kel'thuzad (and ofc death's bite , webspinner, duplicate , dark cultist, voidcaller from the class challenges) are pretty much used in a lot of decks. BRM got some nice cards but imo depends more on you actually having decent decks or a bunch of cards already.

Meaning you have to think through about 300 card possibilities x amount of times. It's pretty complex. Strategic: Thinking through the possibilities. ^

Tempo succeeds in hearth due to the inherit game design with the mana crystals, and always having a set amount. In contrast to mtg where you end up sacrificing part of your hand in order to have mana and future card draws, where everything isn't relevant to the board immediately, that and sticky minions have led to tempo dominance and the "face game." Unless something in the future is directly released to counteract tempo different hp gain minions or cheaper combo centric minions, I feel the game will eventually hit critical mass of nothing but a face meta.
