Survival past turn 6 is necessary for this deck to work and the amount of variable factors that go into the play making, so that you pull off the combo is substantially different between a typical "Aggro" deck and this "freeze deck" I cant even come to remotely imagine how you could possibly compare or contrast this and aggro. As he mentioned in the beginning, you need high level of sustain in your card usage in order to pull something off later on and have an impact, and while you try to do that ,its extremely easy to get turned over by a brainless aggro deck with most minimal critical thinking. Mare chances of you loosing just because you did not get the right removal or reactive card at the right moment / order is significantly higher and the punishment is easily death. Also obviously you do the "same thing" every time. This is a combo deck with a specific theme, you have 30 cards, what do you expect ?

The specific version of freeze mage is one of the most "safe" and easy ones , indeed. But you can always watch and enjoy 2 trump's vids on tube "trump is on fire (standard mage)" playing another version of freeze mage and u may realise how hard and skillful can be to calculate draw chances and exact lethal after 3-4 turns ..

This match is literally the exact reason I hate combo decks. Literally 0 interaction for the other player. It's no different than miracle rogue in the past. All he can hope for is that you, as the combo deck player, run out of stall before you draw out a combo. What he does during the matchup matters very little.

How to make combo decks more viable and interactive: Design more and better "combo alarms" like Emperor Thaurissan that tell the enemy that the combo is ready. This way enemies have a chance to do something about it while also allowing combo decks to be better.

There also need to be more cards like Loatheb that allow players to attempt to deal with combo decks outside of "Go face and hope to god the other player doesn't have combo yet." That's part of why I love the new Dirty Rat card, it can be an amazing counter to minion-centric combos like Leeroy Jenkins in Zoolock or Rogue, and can also prematurely bring out powerful late-game cards like N'zoth or Reno Jackson, completely removing their battlecry, but it comes at the risk of either being way too slow to use against aggro decks, or bring out something useless like a loot hoarder or even be unplayable against control decks if you don't have removal along with it. It can potentially be a huge play, but its not good in all situations, AND it can be played around. The more stuff I can use to beat friggn Malygos decks the better.

Let me just silence this ice lance right here... I mean, I don't know how I targeted the spell in his hand, but you're right! We're all saved from freeze now. Unless you're suggesting he should have enough silence, every turn, to unfreeze three or more minions. Several silence cards. Every turn. And enough mana. Notwithstanding the fact that they nerfed silence card(s) and specifically said they want less silence in the game. I mean, yeah, freeze mage looks entertaining to play, but I'd rather be beaten by a OTK charge deck or shaman. At least that comes abruptly!

Aureate Awilix well how about the fact that freeze mage relies on their freeze to prevent damage so if you silence your minion when its frozen then its a great way to catch freeze mage's off guard by damage they wernt expecting. Look at this game for instance, if that druid had a silence he could have silenced any of his frozen minions and hit kripp in the face once and it would have popped kripps ice block a turn sooner causing him to lose the game, and games like this are pretty common vs freeze mage. Often times if you can prevent even a single turn of stall from a freeze mage it will result in their death because of how much they rely on their stall to survive long enough to draw their damage.

Kripp, you should really try Gwent, the Witcher Card Game, which is now standalone and in closed beta. It is basically eniterly about combo, control, bluffing and predicting. Basically the opposite of just curving out. This game doesnt even have mana or similar resources.

Freeze Mage is *NOT* a combo deck. Its an *OTK SMOrc* deck. If you want to try TRUE combo decks, go for Reno combo Warlock, with po, Leeroy and faceless. There you'll have your important decisions on whether to waste burst/struggle to survive and fight for board or go all in face, its all there, Kripp. FreezeMage is just a no brain cancer compared to my superior combos.

Whenever I lose to freeze mage, I can look back on the decions I made and usually figure out where I lost. When I lose to shaman I usually look back and think. Maybe if he didn't roll a taunt totem, or maybe if his lightning storm didn't roll high, maybe if I drew my 3rd board clear buy turn 7 I could have won. It is pure bullshit rng and overpowered recovery tools that make shaman no fun and not interactive. The only difference between the shaman and freeze mage is that shaman games are shorter, they rely more on rng and they are more common.

I love my Malygos Freeze Mage. I got Malygos from a pack, being one of my first legendaries. I made my own deck with him in it, and have slowly refined it over time. Freeze Mage is such an interesting playstyle too.

Everyone giving a lot of hate against freeze mage, as someone who really loves this deck, I'll give you two things to consider: - first of all: the counter is to play a few, small to midrange minions, which is not worth for the mage to freeze. That's how you easily put him down pretty low and are able to win pretty easily, as there is just no good point to freeze. If he does freeze your small, few minions, you just counter it by playing some bigger ones, as he just lost one of his tools of stopping those bigger minions. - play this deck yourself. If you face an opponent who plays like the example I gave you above, you will see how hard this deck actually is, as you always have to keep in mind many things. It's not just "freeze and forget", it's about the decision "if I freeze now, will my opponent kill me in the next five turns if I don't draw another freeze?" Every deck has a hard counter, and for freeze mage, it is midrange (something that died out recently it seems).

There was no counter for patron or raging worgen. That is why Blizzard killed them. Samuel Jackson except 90% of the time they are playing the matchup completely wrong and lose because of it. you can consistently tell what deck someone is playing by turn 3 and play according to the matchup. for example against freeze mage you dont want to be ramping as druid on turns 3,4, and 5 because thats when they want to draw. you want to put pressure on those turns to make them waste some burn and not be able to draw their combo.

Samuel Jackson they dont "persist" as you say...mainly because they actually take skill. It is very skill intensive on both sides of the battle. The opponent has to know when not to over-extend and pick up on reads of how much of the combo they have. The combo deck has to know what burn they can use as removal and they often make unconventional plays. I would rather have a combo meta than the shit we have now.

I really think Kripp would LOVE shadowverse. Its just as deep as Hearthstone with an awesome evolve mechanic for both players but with no rng nonsense. it really is your ability to properly play your deck against your opponents ability to play his class properly. The classes are incredibly different from one another as well with interesting mechanics like the Bloodcraft class cards getting many buffs once your hero is at 10 health or below. So you actually try to take damage and even play minions and spells that do damage to your hero to activate Vengeance quicker. A wicked on the edge of your seat back and forth between near death and popping out great minions. So much fun

Freeze mage is one of the strongest decks out there if the person knows how to play it. Its all decisions and planning. People who are good at thinking few turns ahead usually have a high win chance. I mean basically build a freeze mage that plays off what your trying to accomplish. I don't run what krip does or most net decks for freeze mage. And i win like 80 percent of my games as freeze mage. Very good deck.

The reason we have curvestone is not because we have good curve decks, but because control tools, and anti aggression tools are so over costed and so few and far between. Board clears are like golden legendary cards, there is a distinct lack of healing cards and taunts and defensive minions.

heavyarms55 I am sorry but you are wrong. The problem is, when you undercost strong board clears and removal, those cards are used in the aggro and curve decks. So what you believe is keeping control weak, would actually only buff aggressive decks. Just look at Shaman. It commonly runs 2 board clears in lightning storn and maelstrom portal and even hex. Hell, even tempo mages run flamestrikes. What makes curvestone actually work are these extremely powerful early game minions that you play on curve. Hence the name.

with Emperor being wild next expansion I am trying different cards to replace it. I have tried the 2 mana 3-2 which gives all your shield -1 mana cost but I really isn't near the strength of emperor. Freeze mage is my favorite deck so anyone can think of a card to e tonnage emperor

If the Druid had attacked into the acolyte with hero power and drake instead of face, he'd have milled Doomsayer, which would have kept Arcane Giant in a safe position to soak up burn. Small things. (It was also one card away from milling alexstrasza. Close!)

I love homemade control decks too. Unfortunately, as I'm a decent but ultimately average player (like the vast majority of players), to avoid long lose chains (which is eventually no fun, even if you don't play to win) you often have to make decks that in some way counter netdeck aggro. Then your deck loses to other control decks like Frost Mage as well. gg.

Combo decks should be synergistic cards that create huge and powerful boards swings, card generation, minion interaction etc, not removal, removal, removal, OTK. Patron Warrior right now is a fun and interactive combo deck, Shadowcaster and Brann are cool combo cards, doppelgangster is going to be a cool combo card too.

Please kripp , try star Crusade . Its a ccg similar to Hearthstone but with a lot of new mechanics (for example , the Numbers of cards inyour deck goes from 25-40 , and it determinates your hp ) . But the re are very feo spells , ande most part cant go face so the fight to control the board is todo damn intense . I really think that you will enjoy ir a lot

While I do think freeze mage is not really promoting interesting gameplay, it is fair in the sense that you can always add an eater of secrets or additional healing in case the deck becomes too popular.

So, here's an idea for the problem with going second in arena. Instead of getting a coin in arena, what if the player going second just ALWAYS her 2 mana on turn 1, 3 mana on turn 2, 4 mana on turn 3, etc.? Like they get a coin played every turn, which obviously doesn't keep going once they have 10 mana, since that is the maximum. So, the player who goes first has the initiative to make the first play, but the player going second get's to respond to a 1 drop with a 2, then a 2 drop with a 3, then a 3 drop with a 4, and so on.

SOOO many salty players in the comment section. Mad about facing real control decks, whining that it's zero interaction. Because watching a shaman play trogg into totem golem into 4 mana doctor boom is totally fun and interactive, much counterplay indeed. With decks like this at least it can be played against. You can out-think your opponent, play around what they are capable of as each control deck has a very particular method to it. It's so much more fun to be able to think about your turns and what your opponent can do in response to your plays, what they have in their deck, how you'll have to manage your card efficiency to theirs. THAT'S a fun game, not 1,2,3,4,5 i win.

It doesn't reguire any skill or intelligence whatsoever, especially if you are playing against a class that cannot heal consistently (which only Priests can do with somewhat ease). I think it's true about what you said that 90% of the decks require no skill or thought whatsoever, but i also think that this deck also belongs to those 90%.

All i see is either people complaining about being bursted down from 30 health and that its not interactive, or saying aggro decks are just as bad if not worse than them. Of course people play them because they want to win, but most people feel like it takes the fun out of the game, and i do somewhat agree. I feel like if Blizzard actually wants to fix this "cancer" meta, as people call it, there are a few key things they could do to go about it. A good way to do it i feel would be to not only increase the amount of healing available to classes to help counter aggro, but to also increase the overall health pool of all heroes, maybe 40, so that all classes have a chance against decks specifically made to kill the opponent as fast as possible. This would overall slow the game a little, making it less punishing to not draw your one or two drop, or not draw the right answer for the situation. It would also make it possble to dodge combo decks if you manage your health wisely. Nevertheless, i think its obvious something needs to be done to slow the game down, as it will create a more healthy meta that doesnt revolve around "me draw tunnel trog, me go face" or "draw, stall, draw more, stall more, now you're dead." Now, that's my rant over with, I tend to be slightly elaborate when typing or writing...
