In my opinion, Holy Nova vs. Shrinkmeister isn't just a question of straight card quality, it's about fulfilling roles in the deck. Holy Nova would does something nothing else in Trump's deck could have -- hit multiple minions with one card and regain lost tempo. It also combos well with Velen's Chosen, which is already a high pick in Priest. And considering how much Trump likes to distribute damage across his minions so no one has to die, you'd think he'd value a board-wide friendly heal higher. Yes, Holy Nova costs more than Consecration and does less than Flamestrike, but just because Trump doesn't think it does its job well doesn't mean that the job doesn't sometimes need to get done.

Why did Trump bother to pick Shrinkmeister over Nova? I mean I'm not saying I'm a pro or "teh best arena playar" but It's basically a 5 mana Consecrate with the added bonus of healing you AND your minions. What's not to love?

SBroproductions It's very simple: Trump can't plan ahead. Never could. Never learned. That's why he's such a mediocrity in constructed tournaments despite sinking hours and hours into laddering every day. To him, Holy Nova is just an overpriced Consecration. To a newbie, it looks like a "5 mana: deal 6-10 damage, heal 6-10 damage." To pros who never gave up on arena like Hafu and Kripp, it's 1) aoe; 2) anti-aggro; 3) a great combo card with the very cheap Northshire Cleric and the relatively cheap Velen's Chosen; 4) a fantastic defensive turn 5 play to follow up your Yeti, Lighspawn, Sen'jin, Hungry Dragon and so on. Trump's a dummy. We know that all too well.

He kinda wanted to point out that nova isn't far superior then shrinkmeister like most people think because if you don't have the control of the board it is just a 1 more mana consecration and shrinkmeister is a top tier 2 drop like power of the wild in druid, it is close but I would still choose nova unless I really badly lacked 2 drops.

Lethanial Taking Shrink was correct in my opinion. It's a very strong and versatile card. Many arenas are lost due to having a bad start, so it was the safe choice. True disaster was keeping that Mountain Giant hand, you never give yourself a glacially paced start in arena on purpose.

Holy Nova, Consecrate, Flamestrike, Hellfire, Lightning Storm.... It is almost always worthwhile to take one to regain board control in arena. It would've been a snap-pick for me, unless I had cards like Cabal or Madness drafted, or plenty of early game buffing going on.

Ummmmm first pick how do you not Enhance-o-Mechano??? Mountain Giant often is topdecked in the late game and then a dead card, but the mechano can save a lot of games even if you only have one or two minions.

I personnally thinks velen's chosen is almost the best card to pick every time you are able to , its almost the priests Flamestrike not because its an op card itself ( its very good ) but because the priest hero power allow him to keep healing it over and and over again , my best Priest runs are the one with several velen's heavy light game , and several tier 2 minions

Aussy Welch As priest you don't have a better option to AOE clear, there are plenty of moments where as Paladin you have to Consecrate Turn 4, but because you don't have a consecrate as Priest you have to use Holy Nova instead. It's either use sub-par AoE clear (which sometimes has really good value) or just die to 1/2 health minions. Every class needs a way to catch up on the board when behind, it just so happens when facing a lot of small creatures, Priest has a harder time than others in arena. Holy Nova when even drawing one card is insane value because otherwise you'd have to spend 2 mana to heal otherwise. I'd gladly pay 1 mana to heal 2 health to a creature and myself and draw a card over consecrate. You can easily plenty of opportunities in this video where Shrinkmeister would be useless (as it's a Win-More card when optimal) but Holy Nova would have been devastating to the opponent.

People think holy nova is good because its... AoE. AoE does not win games, it turns them around, usually... Which can win games(see: Flamestrike). Of course, there are better and worse AoEs, but having any form of reliable AoE can be really useful. AoEs are better when behind, and you WILL fall behind sometimes. Then, AoE can come to the rescue.
