The gates are automatic, they aren't manual like many areas in Europe, the trains were timed just in a way that the gates started lifting but another train showed up

@@mrnorthwestohiodude7758 thank's for the information, I understand; However, today it wouldn't rocket science to have a slightly more intelligent automatic system which doesn't open the gates if the next approaching train is so close already; I guess it would improve safety as well, just imagine someone starting to walk across as the gates go up ...

@@EnjoyFirefighting Normally signals will stay down if another train is in the relay for the crossing, however, in this instance, the second train was just barely outside the relay for a couple of seconds allowing the gates to go up.

@@mrnorthwestohiodude7758 why not upgrade the system for that case? Simply keep the shut / down when the system knows that theres another train within a minute

@@EnjoyFirefighting It cant know theres a train coming within the area. The way crossings work in the US, is that there is a really small electric signal running on both rails within a certian distance of the crossing (usually like a mile). When the metal wheels of a train drives into the area with the electric current, it completes the circut, activating the signal. It doesnt know where the location of the train is outside the crossing. Any system that would use something like GPS to detect trains is too expensive for any rail company in the US to afford.
