Tips: 1: in the purge take out (Khrushchev, Rokosovsky, navy and air force) 2: Talk to the allies like USA, CANADA, Australia and UK and ask them buy your Fighter I license, they need fighter 1's soon and this gives a bonus to research and helps you out 3: ask the allies to trade with you, the allies are on civilian economy or great depressions so it only makes sense to trade with you, most games you dont need to mention this but if after the game starts and nobody is trading or getting things from you pop in and remind them 4: dont forget to have some divisions a fallback line on Svestapool and Crimea 5: have some troops as reserve near Stalingrad in case Germany tries to naval invade and garrison the ports

@@DogWuffy Scorched earth involves manually destroying any potential resources in an area that can be used by the enemy. The scorched earth decisions in hoi4 cause damage to factories and infrastructure in your provinces. What he's doing is literally deleting them from existence in the blink of an eye using the slightly broken factory delete system. Not to mention in real life Russia invoked scorched earth while retreating from the Germans, while this strategy is getting rid of them before the war starts. Not too many players know how to use this in hoi4 either.

Very much enjoyed the guide, there isn't really any guides out there for MP games and the current meta which is a shame (the ones that are currently present are outdated). Pretty solid guide tbh, good work, coming from a Soviet Main. Really the only objections I have are that you should always have at least 1 20w division on every tile in front of the stalin line in order to destroy infrastructure. This is just in case the German player has cav on resistance garrison missions to curb partisan activity. Also, Mobile Warfare for a no air Soviet is very viable, since you can make an org-wall and hold in a long term conflict (mobile warfare left-right). Finally, I wouldn't recommend building forts on the Stalin line as long as Germany is competent, as he can use Manstein's Fort Buster ability and break your main line of defense, which is catastrophic and sometimes decides the fate of the game. Other than that though, its a good guide, and really helps for players who aren't sure/afraid to give Russia a shot. Thank you for making it.

While this guide is correct for the larger concepts what you should do as MP Soviet Union, the guide is filled with flaws in its details. I can find a mistake in almost every ten seconds of this video. In the comment, you will see how you should PROPERLY do construction, navy, airforce, and army. First, in terms of constructions, there are several mistakes. 1. you SHOULD build infrastructure to LV8 before you build factories in that province. 2. You should not build your factories in the province the video build factories, INSTEAD, build where has high starting infrastructure and is behind the Starlin Line. Second, generally, you are NOT allowed to delete factories unless it's enemy territory(It's called sabotage in enemy territory and called salty loser in your own territory, especially you have the decisions to move the factories.) Just imagine that France decides to delete all his factories because Germany is about to take them over. It's the same here. You can convert Civs to mils, but deleting factories because it's about to be occupied by your enemy is not an honorable thing to do in HOI4. Third, let's talk about the NAVY. Terribly stupid idea to delete your naval production. Russian fleet in the Black Sea can force Romania to defend their coastline and Russian fleet in the Baltic Sea can force Germany to put their Sea Lion navy defend against you and force Germany to defend their Baltic Coastline. Most importantly, you have no use of 1000+ convoys, convoys are useless after 500. Fourth, a quick talk on AIR FORCE, NO-Air Russia does not mean no air at all. In fact, you want some fighters so that the Axis have to spend some effort to contest you in Russia, instead of them just putting CAS and no fighter over the sky of Russia. These fighters will not help the Russian theatre, but it will help the Allies as they try to win the airwar of D-DAY. Before army, let's talk about VOLUNTEERS. Do not send many guns to Republican Spain, as they are not allowed to exist in most servers. That is, if the Republicans win, the Sapin player will switch it to Nationalist at a cost between 3-5 civ to Russia until the start of WWII. And usually, volunteers are not allowed in China. Most importantly, ARMY. USSR has three potential routes for their army: Mobil Warfare, Superior Firepower, and Deep Battle. If Russia is trying to have a decent tank force, you should do Positive Heroism Focus and go Mobil Warfare, such armored force would be even superior to the Germans at a cost of weak infantry. SF is a well-balanced choice of both infantry and tank that is open for many strategies. Deep battle(Mass Assult Left) is the route described in the video, which emphasizes delaying the enemy and fight a war of attrition. The video has done the strategy VERY POORLY!!!! You do not let your divisions to guard the cities and ports in the area that you are about to give up, because that is just straight up let your divisions commit suicide and wasting manpower and equipment. INSTEAD, you want to use the time you waiting for the war and put 1 division on each tile of that region so that the combats will damage the infrastructure and not losing your divisions for every division is important for your defense.

1: if you carefully watch the video I actually did tell people most people recommend building the infrastructure up and then civilian factories but for the guide I was going to keep it simple and do civilian factories instead. Also I've done a test in single player and increasing infrastructure and then building civilian factories you get 4 Less but if you need the resources I can understand 2: like I said it is a really scummy thing to do but it's also very smart oh, but I could see where you're coming from on that but I have not found a server that specifically bans that action. They instead mostly say you can't delete factories while you're at War 3: I totally disagree with that, you have to build the new ships inside of the Baltic since you're locked in there and you already have a huge superiority over the Romanian Navy so it's really kind of pointless to build more ships were you already can easily have Naval superiority 4: I do understand your point on that and misspoke, I did mean to have a part where I explained if you're going to have planes don't do it too much but just enough to keep him occupied so I will give you that 5: actually sending it to Spain is a good idea, if nationalist Spain is a player they will pull back to the river and the AI will continuously charge into the river line, if they have a massive surplus of guns what's the Soviet Supply you are single-handedly funding around a hundred divisions constantly attacking gaining Army XP, one multiplayer game I did this and reach 500 Army XP three times before the Spanish Civil War was over You are correct the divisions are pretty much being given over but with the Soviet Union have in a ridiculous amount of manpower and quickly swapping them before the Germans advance to divisions that don't have much equipment or putting them as Garrison divisions you essentially yes lose guns and Manpower but you have so much in reserve it's worth it, it completely destroys the infrastructure or any factories left behind making Germany sit there for a good six to nine months preparing everything they just destroyed while advancing to the Stalin line and now have to fight you there

Realistically the general only has the option to use a Max of 24 divisions, it's not like he can use them on every single spot on the line. Really they have to concentrate on two or one areas. I think that's better to force them into a small Zone where you can fight them one-on-one compared to not making forts and have to worry about the whole front

BUT that is just a side note to consider, it's very hard to find "best spots". Assume you build in the really best regions. The fact that you only have 4 less civ by building infrastructure is a great proof why you need to build infrastructure, because it a)Make you build your military factories faster when you turn into mil-building, b)Much better supply for you as you will build these infrastructure behind your defensive area. and c)more resource. However, it's interesting to note that provinces with resources usually don't have much building slots. Make some sense. 2.As we all kind agree, deleting factory is really on the grey to dark area in terms of things a player should do. 3.Navy is a very personal thing for Soviet Union. Just like should you train your navy as Soviet Union because you have more than enough fuel anyways. I believe keep building is better because you do not have the usage of more than 1000 convoys. It's not a standard thing for Russia because the Red Fleet is almost useless. But be aware that naval dominance in the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea can save you a lot of troubles. 4. Glad at least we made a common agreement at somewhere. 5.Sending a lot of equipments to Spain is a thing that I have never done before. I sent at most 5K guns to Spain because I believe Russia needs enough guns to equip the massive manpower and land-lease China is another cost of 20K guns. If the xp gain is that great in Spain, I will defiantly try it out. But one potential argument is that most of these guns will turn into xp for Spain and the Axis if they send Attaches. 6.You misunderstood my point. I agree with the idea that you need to fight before Stalin Line, but you need to fight it in a MUCH SMARTER way. Sure Russia can lose a lot manpower, but Russia need the guns to gun the mans(Pretty historical I would say). Manually order divisions into every tile before the Stalin Line, so once the advancing German army defeat one of your devision, that devision will safely fall back to the tile behind it and fight there again. If you micro the fallback carefully, you should be able to cause tremendous damage to the infascuture because you would literally fight the enemy tile by tile WHILE suffer VERY LITTLE lose in manpower and equipment.

@@dustinl796 have you tried Marines in the Pripyat marshes? I've had some success holding the more forward Memel-Odessa line with Marines in the central marshy provinces. They get a combat bonus and putting decent troops there forces Germany to fight in the +60% attrition zones. You have plenty of XP with the amount of guns you're sending to Spain so making a 14-4 marine division isn't a huge hurdle to clear. They'll get a bonus to fighting against river crossings as well once you've pulled back. Plus, you can maintain control of most of the provinces on the line so Germany gets his troops stuck in a sliver of supply zones without the option to repair or improve the infrastructure. The line will likely break at some point but then you pull back to the Stalin line. On doctrine, I like the idea of mass assault(left) for the effect of our partisans and cramming in more inf. But I think the soft attack from superior firepower(right, right) is better in terms of inflicting casualties, even on defense. Finally, what's your thoughts on mixed heavy tank-infantry? 24 production lines doesn't require importing any chromium on free trade and you can fully equip 40 battalions of heavies by Barbarossa if you start production upon finishing KV-1 research (can equip 50 if you start production of HT-1 to build production efficiency). 13-4-1 divisions end up with about 45 armor, enough to resist piercing by 40w divisions with support AA. When they're pierced by tank divisions, they're only 5% hardness so the hard attack does very little and defense is still greater than enemy soft attack. I've found only 1/2 or so MP servers ban mixed tanks/inf.

Well I have thousands of hours in Hearts of Iron 4 usually I just play a few matches in single player and multiplayer and write down notes and try to combine them later on and then try that strategy a few times and if it works that's what the video is :-)

As much as possible spam out that infantry, but make sure there isn’t to many to stop attrition. Once the war has started make sure you providing enough infantry and guns to reinforce but your main focus should be tanks.

Get the license of light tank 2 from France to get light tank 2 faster with the 20% research bonus. Do not put all your divisions under one general like he does. You have 5 years to assign generals which give bonuses. That is ridiculous losing all of the bonuses for no reason. Also make sure to have support AA in your tanks and infantry. It will get rid of his cas and air superiority bonuses a good amount. Besides that good guide.

The tutorial was never valid. The strongest possible USSR will -convert 10-20 mils to civs at game start -go superior firepower r/l -take positive heroism and not take any focuses after inf focus until a early 1938 purge to save political power (the 300+ pp it takes to get down anti-fascist diplomacy are not worth the forts and 2 tannu tuvan factory assuming Germany does Molotov-Ribbentrop)

For me the best strat is to purge no one. You might wonder, but there are multiple great benefits from this. You keep all the Advisors. You keep almost all Generals, Tukhachewski as FM + Rokossowski as Advisor is a big deal. And you ll get many great bonuses from the focus tree much quicker. I did the following: Start off with civ spam. None in the south, because this part will revolt. Stalin constitution first for War Eco, followed up by five year plan. Then from positive heroism down to the research slot. (Way better than Collectivist Propaganda imo. Less Stab, but you get a whopping 10% research speed + 3% manpower + a tank genius advisor.). Grinded Army and Air XP in both Spain and China. Also trained nice low level Generals like Chuikow up. I Started the purge in early 1938. -75 PP in the first trial and no one in both the second and third. Queued up about 24 Mot Divisions in the meantime. Then i deleted my whole army (Except the mountaineers which fought in China) after the border war with Japan in early 1939. When the civil war started, the rebels had no Army at all. I just deployed my 24 Mots and rushed the victory points then. It was over in just about a month. The only traid off was Vlasow (one Decent General), some old equipment (Didnt build Planes, or anything important aside from Inf equipment and enough trucks for the mots yet). Aside from the benefits i mentioned already, you also got way less purge penalty on your army and you can do lessons from war after the civil war, which will remove the penalties entirely. You might think, that i was weak now. But thanks to the Civ spam until late 39 i was able to pump out countless mil factories and a terrifying army :)

1: you don't need to necessarily use all the templates I said in the video there just basic ideas 2: that's the main idea of them to cause damage 3: as many as you can support and supply 4: at divisions in support of regular divisions to cause armor losses and possibly hold, tank divisions are made to counter other tanks or to push 5: I would recommend swapping the superior Firepower now instead of mass assault

germany decided to attack early, so i didn’t have my garrison troops ready. i held at the stalin line for about a year. they broke through the line and spear headed to kursk. i encircled them, retook the stalin line, waited for dday and took berlin.

You don't need to research light tank 2 immediately. When you get the armour treaty event just switch one of your research slots to the light tank 2 and then accept the treaty.

Good video BUT whole concept of defence on Stalin Line has so many holes: 1. German D-days: Who said Baltic sea cannot take some naval flleet?I see many players forgot about that but if yuse see Soviet sitting on Stalin Line just mass your navy on Baltic and make plan for dday on Leningrad (but make it befere war so soviet wont see an indicatior. In 80% you can take Leningrad for free or with little effort -> Blitzkrieg behind his lines and laugh load in Blitzkrieg. 2. Blac sea: same point as above but here germany requires competent player on ROM, with little invest Rom can build nice navy and naval inviade Caucasus. Also you can use this example on your favour as Sobiet, if Germany forget about this sea's make your own D-Day on Stettin and laugh loud in Stalin.

As for lend lease yes... for the other question, pretty much means sense generals gain xp based on how many divisions they control you blindly add 100-200 divs to a general and attack for way more xp

Once I get done with the tech tree that I have in the Germany guide that's when I start working on tank upgrades support equipment and other basic things, as for this guide the reason I prefer to go down the left instead of the right is because the right side gives you research bonuses which the Soviets don't really need too much since they're mostly defensive for a while and they can rush really far away tanks. The right side gives you a research bonus and Manpower which I don't really think the Soviets need, the other side gives you construction speed along with a couple other small bonuses which is way more important for building Forts and factories later on

I disagree with those garrison troops -- you've sacrificed a large amount of manpower and supply for little gain. Rather, have a series of fallback lines so overruns are minimized, they simply keep them at pace with the frontline till they reach the main defence -- at which time you withdraw them away to minimize supply issues.

Generally this is a good guide, but i there are things that i disagree with 1. Building forts is a REALLY BAD IDEA since germany starts with a Fortress buster, so you are shooting yourself in the foot eith them 2. When talking about the purge you say we should get rid of Khrushchev when Kalinin(the second option) is a much better idea(he only gives Communist support which is just useless)

Actually it is Khrushchev that gives Communists support, and as for forts it is not a bad idea since they are behind a river so Germany would have to do Fortress Buster on only one or two forts or areas to try and break through, since they don't really have the ability to do that they're forced to use Fortress Buster on only a couple areas. For France it's not a good idea since they can only have a small front line over the Soviets it still works because their front line is so massive and it keeps them at bay on the rest of the line she can concentrate on only one or two zones

As for your question about positive heroism or collectivist propaganda it really depends on the type of build you're doing, if you're going for a Superior weapons compared to the enemy kind of Russia you obviously want research bonuses but if you're going to go a hardcore military kind of Russia able to spam hundreds of Divisions at the enemy then you obviously want construction bonuses to make more military factories faster

I'll try in the future however expert AI does a little bit more than just makes it smarter, in one live stream I did with the mod by 1943 Luxembourg had over 80 40 width divisions and I could barely take them out there was so many and they were all completely equipped, I think it had like a stockpile of over 300,000 rifles

I've never played multiplayer myself but those rules seem stupid. No air production??? What's the point of "no air Russia" Or the next rule of no strat bombers if you aren't allowed to make planes anyway. Also Japan can't attack you??? What does that even mean. Like if you're Japan you can't declare wars or if they are ai they won't be allowed to declare war? If anyone understands this please correct me and explain it cause I'm just baffled and confused.

Well to explain the rules a little bit but no air production focus is incredibly broken in my opinion, it removes 20% of the plane production cost and it's mostly there to hold back Japan since they already have a focus that can remove 20% anyway, then for Strat bombers the whole rule with that is because people would directly Target airfields and totally completely wipe out their entire Air Force after the Air Force is gone then they could just strategic Bond civilian factories and Mills and totally in the game. And then ask for Japan the rule is normally the Soviets are allowed to attack Japan after 1944 in historical servers since that is what happened in real life but in 1945

OOF. One big problem for this guide: never ever build forts. They are useless in MP as fortbuster will give the enemy an actual bonus compared to normal engagements. Because of that you are also wasting production power.

Well not exactly, currently multiplayer sometimes Fort Buster is banned but if not it's still a good idea to build forts for a couple reasons, one if Germany uses Fort Buster they have to concentrate it in only one or two spots which means the rest of the forts on the line are completely fine it would only damage two or three of the forts of the hundreds you've built. Then that also takes command power from Germany which they can't use to force attack or Last Stand later on,

It's part of The molotov-ribbentrop Pact Focus the Germany does or in the Soviet tree the one you can do. Once you get the claims on those territories just justify a war goal and sometime during it they will hand themselves over to you for free

This strat wont work, not because of the DLC's but because the Axis can pump out 4-8 tiger tank 40 width divisions by 1941. I would recommend a LOT of xp farming in national spain with your lend lease and LOTs of farming with lend lease in China too as much as you can and speed up to kv-1s and you can bypass the 2.0 year ahead of time with the kv1s being researched and MAX that armor value so that your armor will outweigh their piercing, not that this videos ideas wont work entirely, but it is so slow and so many debuffs can be removed instantly that I would recommend against this video guide for the majority of army value, focus trees, and even the whole idea that no air=win. You need an air force, you dont need CAS but an airforce will at least stop them from getting LARGE bonuses in combat and it will just be tank on tank combat. Focusing fighters with high agility will win you the air hands down. No air is ALWAYS a bad idea for most countries INCLUDING Russia. No air for minors is alright, but majors need air.

If you have AAA in your divisions you completely get rid of their air superiority bonus. And even though Germany players should try to get tiger divisions out by the war with the Soviets it is a very rare occurrence to see one actually do it because of the skill required. Because of this, if you have tons more divisions than them you can just overrun divisions around them and encircle their tank divisions and starve them out

​@@dustinl796 Well, not going free trade does not give you additional construction buff, therafore you are loosing huge ammount overall, becouse you are spamming CIVS for first 4 years of game. This is huge. Also do you remember to build civs in 80/70/60% infastructure provinces first? Always remember that and update your build que after researching new building slots. You can reach 230-250 civs easy by 1940, if you pick 10% construction focus tree (this tree also gives you additional political power, so you can get 3 most important stuff earlier - war economy, free trade and 10% civ minister)
