We’ve always had retractable lead for our dog and we’ve never had a problem. The trick is never allowing the dog to get so far ahead of you that you can’t control it if something happens. Video: Exhibit A.

In glad the dog is ok! But mate! I work in pet insurance and as soon i I heard the dog was on a retractable lead and it walked out on the road my heart sank! There’s no way insurance would cover that.

Allways a reason for Insurance not to pay out .....

Yvonne NippsOnRibbs it’s actually written into the Highway Code that dog owners must keep their dogs on a secure lead and be in control at all times when near a main road with their dog. That’s the law.

Is it too late to get pet insurance for an 8 year old Havanese with IBS?

Retractable leads are the dumbest thing ever. They get in the way of other pedestrians while walking and then do this. Get a normal lead and then trust your dog once you get to a park.

Retractable leads are great for dogs on the park who can't be trusted off the lead. You shouldn't unclip it until you get to the park, you can keep it locked like a normal lead until then

@@jena5634 i would recommend a long line for those dogs. I work with dogs and i hate retractable leads, i have had so many just snap on me. Plus heard of cases like this where people have retracted it in time and caused an accident
@jena56343 жыл бұрын
@@JessG.01 I understand the appeal of long lines, but my dog always gets tangled in them. As long as you're buying a good quality retractable lead, you're only letting it extend when you're in a safe area and you reel it in before you leave, it's completely fine. I've never had one snap and I replace them whenever I think there's any chance they're worn out.
@JessG.013 жыл бұрын
@@jena5634 i mean im not totally against them, like dogs who are pretty well trained, aren’t pulling loads i can understand, because its not causing a huge amount of pressure on the lead. Its more people who use them for dogs who pull loads and keep running as fast as they can until the leads runs out and pulls the dog back, then as all that tension just snaps them very quickly.

I like a retractable lead when we’re on the street may dog is by my side, when we reach the park I extend the lead and she can have some space. I use this lead because my dog was attacked by two other large dogs was seriously injured and is now fearful of other dogs and can become quite aggressive so I keep her on a lead to make sure she is safe and others are safe. 😔

I do feel sorry for the owner but some people are so careless when it comes to their pets! You shouldn’t have your dog on a lead un-retracted by a road full stop let alone when there’s buses. Be as cautious with your pets as you would be with your kids!
