Awe-struck by the depth of this gentleman's voice ... this rolling, pulsing version... and I'm a huge fan of The Dead and Jerry's many iterations of this compelling traditional Gaelic tune.

From what I have read this song, "Peggy O" is an old Scottish folk song, covered many a time by the Grateful Dead. The Deep Dark Woods play this song very well!!! Thank you very much for posting this beauty of a song.

@@cevinwillson9113 Thanks. Actually, I agree. When I wrote that comment I wasn't too aware of The Grateful Dead. Looking back that's a bit shocking as my heroes are Neil Young, Dylan, Van Morrison, etc, but somehow I've "missed" The Dead, which is unforgiveable. Anyway, I've now caught up a bit and agree that Jerry did many things better. For example, his cover of Dylan's Positively 4th Street is amazing.

This is one of my two top tunes by DDW. I saw them perform, this past summer, at The 2017 Taste of Edmonton. I begged for them to sing it, even holding up a sign, but all we got were smiles, and other fine tunes.

Great rendition of an old song. Always loved Simon & Garfunkels stripped down straight folk version and Joan Baez version, which was also folk, but closer in spirit to The Deep Dark Woods.

Americana at its purest, although the song originated in the ancestrally Celtic lands. And hey, if it's good enough for Beer Nuts, it's damn sure good enough for me! ;-)
@leesher18458 жыл бұрын
I think it's a Canadian band, Woody.
@WoodyMitchell8 жыл бұрын
Could well be, but I wouldn't limit Americana to US bands - look at The Band, for instance. Four out of the five were Canadian, yet they pioneered the Americana music concept.

the only Epiphone ES-335 with double parallel inlay that I know if is the first Noel Gallagher signature model. Does anyone know what ES-335 he is playing in this video? Possibly the old Manchester City blue, Noel Gallagher model?

It's not that Deep Dark Woods do a lot of Dead tunes. They play a lot of songs that the Dead famously covered: Peggy-O, Oh Babe It Ain't No Lie, And We Bid You Goodnight ... any others I've missed?
