Most enjoyable. You know what it's about. I wish you great times ahead. ATB.

Thanks for great comment:) Good thing about fly fishing is its limit of only 100 feet radius of fishing area. Experience is so close to what's happening in water making every game counts.

Great vid! I'm actually heading to Kerama Islands next week, so I'm wondering if some of the same species might be on offer.

Amazing video! Very interesting, got me hooked to whole video. The trevally coming of the hook was very unlucky, like you said, it was the partly the gopro's fault haha. To most anglers, loosing any fish big or small means suffering the same pain as loosing that trevally however, don't worry you will catch an even bigger one soon. Tight lines!

+Andrink10 Last part is little dramatized, as GoPro didn't record the large part of 5-10 minute fight which was a shame, because then I could tell the excitement with a single word. Anyway, fly fishing in shallow coral water is very rewarding. It washes inner city stress away.

Well, the best of technology can slip sometimes, I wish you the best. I am sure that there would still be trevally until winter. That is more than enough time, good luck. And if you do manage to get one on film, I would like to see! :D

Thanks. Will try with fail-safe camera next time:)

Awesome video! What sort of fly rod/reel size and weight are you using? I'm heading to Okinawa and can't decide if i should buy an 8 or 10 at (or both) - tight lines!

Hi this is Ed from TFFCC. I use 9ft 8wt outfit on wading game in open spot welcoming constant wind. But prefer to use 9ft 6wt when wind is not too bad. In light-weight style, fly reel is more essential than ever to stop the strong fish out of blue before he runs into coral, rock, or mangroves. Rod should be built for saltwater with strong butt, reel needs smooth/strong drag system. "Snag" means serious trouble when you are wading awkward terrain, so you need to be ready to break tippet willingly meaning your tackle needs to have enough durability. Line basket is another essential when you are fishing bad terrains. Crystal clear water where fish are only few feet deep is not the best time for flyline casting shadows and splashing top surface. So you need to turn over the leader and let fish only see fly. Also, when fishing skinny water walking hours in dehydrating condition, lighter is always the better.

Are there any bonefish in this island group?
@Tokyoflyfishing6 жыл бұрын
Sighting? Yes, but not in large numbers. Do they come up on certain flats for regular feeding? No. Bonefish are scarcely everywhere in tropical waters, but those 2 conditions are essential to make fly fishing in flats for bonefish realistic.

Ed, were you not undergunned for GT both in rod and the fly?
@Tokyoflyfishing5 жыл бұрын
This happened after 3 runs (GoPro over heated not able to capture most of the part) including rod fight, line fight, snag line on coral, etc. Fish was almost knocked out, but hook was already destroyed in the process then fish slipped away only in few meters. It was 8 weight which many fly fishing purists say "not strong enough", but this is R.L. Winston Boron with lifetime warranty, so I could have gone all the way to the death of rod. Besides, fly rod to me coming from surf casting/boat fishing background, is virtually nothing compared to proper fighting rods. Made for cast, not for fight. Line system was 30lb test at running set on Tibor reel, so technically speaking, you only need your hands and this reel to fight fish. Hook failed, but I was more shocked at GoPro for I wanted to "film" not "catch".

@@Tokyoflyfishing brave man! 😎 I don't fancy having to throw flies with a #12 single-handed rod all day.... Have you succeeded in catching any gt?
