I have fine type 4 hair and I'm about to switch back to heat training, I recently straightened my hair for the first time in almost a decade and I can see how much the single strand knots and long term protective styling has taken a toll on my hair. I'm going back to the days of sittin in my momma's kitchen and gettin my hair pressed once a month. Gonna be tuning in regularly for info on my new hair journey!

Awesome. I love your video and your hair. I am almost 64 years old and I don't know why I have been putting myself through the struggles of my hair. I have no intentions of wearing wash and goes because I hate the shrinkage and all the single strands knots. So after watching your video, I have decided that I will at least blow dry after washing and then I can twist or braid. At least I want have to deal with the shrinkage and my hair will be easier to manage. As of tonight, I realized that it's my hair and I will please me.

It’s very simple to understand really. If u have no intention of wearing ur natural hair in its curly state anymore, and u decide to continuously straighten ur hair with heat but without relaxing it = u have transitioned ur hair to being a “straight natural”. I have straightened my hair twice now since my post relaxer almost 2 1/2 years now, and I love it. My hair lasts for a month straight or longer if I want it to. (At present, my length is around where this girl’s hair is...never had a problem with my hair growing)...and this myth abt “heat damage”. If u r straightening ur natural hair on a regular, ur curl pattern will get looser each time u straighten it, duh...Ur hair isn’t being damaged by the heat; it’s being trained by the heat to stay straight even when wet. Does this girl’s hair look heat damaged to u? Looks like a healthy head of hair to me

I use 450. Anything less just doesn’t do it for me lol. Now I’m only doing heat once a month. Before it was every two weeks, and I used a hot comb before flat ironing. That accelerated the loosening of my curls. So now I’ve dropped the hot comb and I can get an amazing press with just the flat iron. I decided to only do once a month because I don’t want my hair to be too loose.

@coffybelle75344 жыл бұрын
Kay Kay I think it just depends. For me, some of it just went into no curls pattern but just looser and fluffy. And some of it went into more curls like a 4a curl.

Is there a difference in “heat damage” hair and “heat trained” hair? Is “heat trained hair” high key embracing that you damaged your natural texture? Not being messy I honestly love when people turn negative situations positive.
@Desiii20003 жыл бұрын
Since heat training is loosening your curl pattern, it is literally damage by definition. The difference is the intensity of the damage between the 2. Heat training does involve some level of heat damage, because the hair texture won’t completely revert back to it’s original curly state. You have to inflict some degree of damage to loosen the curl pattern. If the heat damage isn’t too severe, you can still grow your hair and retain length because your hair isn’t breaking off and you can retain length if you don’t damage it too much (heat training). If the damage is too severe, then you end up with breakage and you don’t retain length. I was a heat trained natural for years, so I know it’s possible to grow long and relatively healthy heat trained hair, but I knew all the while I was damaging my curl pattern but I didn’t mind at the time.

If you want to wear your hair straight consistently, your curl pattern is going to loosen there is no way around it. She doesn't wear her hair curly so she doesn't care about her curl pattern. If you want to maintain your curl pattern, heat styling on a regular basis is not the way to go.

I guess I meant getting my hair to the point wear it doesn’t revert immediately after straightening it. I experienced a lot of frizz but I learned since this comment that it could be due to split ends or not having a good blow dry routine.

Meanwhile her hair is long, silky and flowing. These "heat damage" labels don't mean anything, I've been wearing a press for 30 years, when my hair is wet it's not all uniform curls, I have loose and straight strands. The trendy natural hair folks would say I have "heat damage", yet i have minimal breakage and my hair goes down to the middle of my back!
@E_MZ_3 жыл бұрын
@@ggsnaps just because it looks good doesn’t mean it isn’t damaged. The curl pattern of your hair is in fact damaged, and I say this as someone who straightened my hair weekly for years up until a few weeks ago and whose hair is thick and long.
