Not sure how to track this, but I'm curious about how many of us have watched this from the beginning, as I have. Bet there's a whole big bunch of us who have "Yay!"-ed and followed every new clip. You guys have done such an awesome job from start to now. Your coverage, filming, editing are just a treat. It's time you hand drill your own well ..it's fairly simple..all my brother did theirs and mine ..was only 22 foot of pipe went down before I hit water...brother used a sled hammer on his but he used chain link fence pipe hammer on mine...then we bought a hand pump to go on top just prime it by pouring a bucket of water down the top and start pumping till you bring the water up..it will take 5 or 6 buckets to clear the water ....you put a shut off value underneath the hand pump...to keep it primed..you will have the best water....and you won't have to hall in water anymore..you could even buy an electric pump for it if you don't want the old timey hand pump...... You guys are awesome....thanks for sharing your life and homesteading with us all..I love it💞

Have you considered putting in a well. Even if the flow rate was slow it would augment you capacity and a windmill pump wouldn’t put a strain on your solar. You’d be harvesting wind power to provide water.
@teevis3620

I thought the same thing. It could double as a well pump and drive an auxiliary electric generator where the power flow could be dedicated and adjusted to flow to 1,2,3 or more household applications and/or with the peak flow to take care of the AC running at anytime during a 24hour period. Doing a great job guys.. ...yikes, mutant snakes.

A well is needed. The amount of fuel it takes to deliver water is crazy. They are right about a small turbine to pump water from a well to your tanks. It would coexist with rain water capture. just set one tank to be well pumped back up. Plus the ease of mind is spectacular.

A couple of suggestion for the problems you are having. 1). Build a storm shelter and put your batteries down there. After all you live in Texas you might need one and the cool constant temperature below ground will be the same in Summer and winter. Great for the batteries. 2) Add Wind power you might not get much power on those hot stagnant nights but during the nights were you might have some wind you can get a little power boost during the night. 3) Water? Can you have a well? What about taking water from the pond in front of the house? At least during emergency situations? Good luck to you!

So can relate to this 100 degree heat summer in So Calif up in high desert. Our grass is dying & I've lost almost all my container plants even with watering every other day. We do our errands after the sun sets. Tired of being stuck indoors, but I'm an old lady now..lol. We need rain desperately too. Lake Mead has dried up as well as Lake Powell. Now the Colorado river is drying up, Nevada, California, Arizona & Colorado depend on these systems for water, so water restrictions are coming, can't wait as we are a family of 7. I have enjoyed watching your videos, seeing your progress & the children grow. You've made a beautiful home & should be proud, mistakes & all. ❤ God Bless

glad to see yall are finally fencing up the crawl space and will keep snakes out. one extra tip in case you all have not done already is to take some extra of the screen material used for the skirting and secure the screen material over top of the vent stacks on the roof for the plumbing. Reason is snakes can and will crawl into the vent stacks and get into your plumbing and come up through bathtub, etc. I don't recall off the top of my head where you all had the stacks but I am guessing you probably have 2-3 up there. keep it up, y'all are doing a great job. and yes write a book about how solar/electric conversion is not for everyone, it would be impossible for 350MM of us in the US to make this conversion. too expensive, too much space needed, too much maintenance and batteries are already scarce. You all are doing an honorable job, but more importantly showing just how difficult it really is to complete. blessings to all of you.

When I lived in Texas long time ago, one of the best things in one story houses was the Attic fan. It was usually in the hall of bedrooms. open the windows and it sucks the wind through the house. Even if the air is hot it is air moving. On normal warm days it is enough so can save on airco. Another was the water-cooler in the window.. really nice at night. Also covering your outside airco so does not get direct sun but does get air will save it from working harder. Growing more bushes against house also cools down the house. growing with your home. Love it.

As far as dealing with the heat....We moved from the upper midwest to SoCal. In the summer, we have daily temps above 100. It took a long time to adjust to the heat as well as the lack of humidity. What seemed to help was gradually increasing the temp. on the thermostat. A degree increase a week. What used to be comfortable 72 degrees is now freezing! Our thermostat is set at 80 and we are used to that. Love you videos.

I've been living off-grid for the past 11 years. I've had to upgrade my solar system severely to accommodate my needs. I finally drilled a deep well 600ft and due to 7gpm I also had to bury a 2500gal storage tank to pump water into. This necessitated the installation of jet pump to pump water into a pressure tank to give me 24/7 water. I have a dual electric/propane water heater, electric refrigerator and deep freezer. Batteries are the biggest piece of an off-grid solar system. I purchased Toshiba LTO SCIB batteries from a junk yard from two Honda Fit EV wrecked vehicles for $4K that give me 44kW of battery bank storage. I can run my place for almost 5 days and nights without any sunshine however, I have a propane generator attached to my system that can recharge the batteries to full charge in 6 hours. I wouldn't think that you need to go very deep for a well with all the surface water around your property and you now can get almost the same amount of battery storage I have by purchasing server rack batteries for less than $1,500 per 5kW of storage for Lipo4 batteries, which are safe batteries. I don't know what you are currently using but, I think that you can integrate your existing batteries with the new ones.

My husband found out about this project while clicking channels. He was retired and talked me into watching with him. Both containers were in place and they were working on the middle section when we decided to go back to the beginning. We binged watch for several nights until we were all caught up. He loved it so much that he couldn't wait for me to get home from work to watch it. He'd see it during the day and then again at night with me. We enjoyed every minute of it, watching Ferdinand and Bear and later on IO and their daughter growing up. My husband passed away while Kenzie was pregnant with their son. It's been a bittersweet experience, to reach the end of this great milestone that Spencer and his family have reached. Good luck to them and I hope to continue to see future projects with them.

It’s amazing how you guys live off the grid. I was thinking isn’t it possible for you guys to have a borehole water system which naturally comes from the ground, and with a water pump and electricity it will be able to assist you guys when there is no rain especially in summer. Many farmers, households, and ranches use it. It just a suggestion maybe you guys can look into it. I love all the videos keep them coming. Well done guys!👏🏽👏🏽👍👍

Y’all definitely have the “handy” gene and tons of homework and hardwork. Reconsider a water well. Start rubbing your nickels together for new batteries. Make a wildfire plan. Maybe cool the house down pretty cool during the day while you have the excess power.

When we lived in shipping container whilst building our home we ended up putting a huge skillion roof over our containers. It reduced the heat buy about 5c in summer and stopped condensation in the winter. Also enormously increased our water catchment area which kept our 3 small tanks full (1321 gallons) & our 28,000 gallon tank half filled.

Yeah you need to replace the Tesla batts with LFP rack mounts and they have BMSs built in just plug and play. You can let them go down further than the Tesla NMC batts. Solar plenty like you said. Also stop flushing toilets with drinking water! Setup a compost toilet during drought times. I recommend a Separette or CHead. Good work you all! Keep it up.

Great conversation about the real life issues with living with off grid systems. Re your set up. look into a duel power element ( AC one side and DC the other) for your water heater and add a couple of solar panels specifically for it use, as you can direct DC heat water in a water cylinder via a duel element. Also look at water cylinder kits that connect to you AirCon heat exchangers. As exchanging heat for the AirCon into or out of your water cylinder, reduces the amount of work your AirCon will have to do on extremely hot days, and thus it'll use less power. Mix Energy in the UK (not affiliated) have product, but more importantly have great documentation that speaks to this point. You'll probably want to source USA based products if you go that route. I hope that helps D

they probably would've gotten a nice battery system if they didn't spend so much money on toys, and i don't mean toys for the kids. Electric motorcycle was few thousands, Fancy ATV was probably 10+ thousands. All that money could've gotten either more batteries so the charge would last longer and/or newer batteries but give a spoiled kid money and they won't think about the family but themselves.
