Cheers Jeremiah! It’s been a great 2024 so far. This upcoming spring will be the 5th year in our house. The first spring we used the original fuel oil furnace, that had to go. So we swapped it out for an LP furnace and a heat pump AC unit. The heat pumps works on off-peak electric down to about 25 degrees, and then the LP kicks in. We have an indoor wood furnace in the basement that I burn most of the scrap and ugly pieces in, but I only burn when the temps drop below 10 degrees, otherwise the house just gets to warm. Best part about the fuel oil furnace was the tank was just filled before we moved in, which after a little research gave me a couple years of diesel fuel to burn in the equipment, so it didn’t go to waste. 😊

I call those the "Uglies"! Since I have to carry wood to the basement for our wood furnace, I burn those during the day and my good wood at night since I can get more poundage into the furnace. Stretches my wood supply about 2x, and I am glad to have them...

Thank you for inviting us into your home. I'm glad that VC is burning well for you. The top loader is ideal for chunks... I've been thinking of building my own "pot belly stove'' from an old LP tank. 80 gallon, 200 pounder, with a door on the top of side, and a smaller door down low for cleaning and starting. Would be a great shop heater fed with misfits. That's what I call that huge pile ya got there. They don't fit anywhere else. Happy New Year to you and yours.

I love burning uglies in my stove, weird but I think they burn better, longer & hotter. I get a lot of free wood from tree service people, generally 4-6 full cords a year, after cutting everything to length, I have cookies left over or large knot peices, I split them in half and stack via pallet with a cylinder of 72" metal fencing wire tied w/ bailing wire together, makes a perfect cone and I just throw the pieces in it to dry, always have 2 cylinders ready to go at any given point.

I have a notebook boiler at my shop is 40 by 210 I have 4 rtheaters and I burn 99% of popular and with the recent hurricanes and what not in no response yet, I get it for free. All I gotta do is split it somewhere it even comes to me. Cut the stove when but I do have a big pile of random lengths that I will have to run through the power sand split. But that will be next winter. All the stuff I get to this winter is already cut to limp

Happy New Year Jeremiah! I have a old Van Wert boiler that provides our domestic hot water and also pumps thru our baseboard heaters. The boiler has shaker grates and I like to get a small bed of anthracite coal going and later throw on a nice size round of oak on top. The boiler is equipped with an automatic draft control that senses the water temperature, and the coal / wood combination provide a nice even heat for several hours. With the mild temps thus far I've been burning more coal as I can choke the draft down and eliminate creosote problems. If the temps drop substantially, I will burn more wood as I can burn the unit hotter.

Happy New Year!! Looks like you will be cutting it close on enough wood for this winter!!😂 I sell the chunks and heat our house with the good stuff! Way to much work to not get in on enjoying the best of it! We have a walkout finished basement with a woodstove downstairs. I cut some registers in the floor above it to allow heat upstairs like the old farm houses did, besides the stairs. I also put a cold air return fairly close, so the fan can be turned on for circulation but has to stay below zero for that to be needed. 2900 sf stays 76 or more degrees all winter with half a small wheelbarrow of free wood a day!🔥🔥

@@outdoorsinthe608 The pladdium brick is located directly under the exhaust pipe. It’s hidden behind that cast iron grate in the back top of your stove and sets inside of the pressed fiberglass box. The smoke filters through it when you close the damper.

@@simplelifewithrobertpusate294 oh yes ok I know what your talking about. When I just recently rebuilt this stove I replaced that along with everything else back there. All the parts came to $900. I also replaced all the same parts in 2012.

Happy New Year Jeremiah. How many totes do you use on an average year for your house. We heat with wood with LP boiler back up. We use scrap pieces and odd pieces with regular wood. We use about 15-18 totes for our house. 15-18 totes for my garage and 15 totes for bonefires. We use scraps first then regular firewood. In a year we use around 15 full cords. Later.

Can’t say I have ever counted the amount of totes we use, but I should start. Total usage is somewhere around 3-4 full cord per year. You burn a lot! But it definitely gets colder up there!! Thank you Allen and happy 2024👍👊👍
