@@incurableromantic4006 to be fair, now that I need my passport to travel to the UK, and I haven‘t renewed it since 2019 because I was too sick to travel, just hopping the channel for a weekend over Karneval, like I did before, has at least a 6 week prior commitment to renewing my passport, getting pictures taken, and informing myself about the data that goes on the Chip and which objections I got. I could much more easily drive up to Denmark, or to France, Belgium or Holland for a short visit. Holland and Denmark work with English, and I speak French…so a lot of the appeal for short term visits is gone after Brexit

I absolutely endorse Rafe’s sound position of an “Elizabeth Memorial”. I would argue that our late Queen actually had a tougher job than her illustrious ancestor. Queen Victoria reigned over a global empire. The Royal Navy ruled the seas (shutting down the trans-Atlantic slave trade among other evils). Britain was the workshop of the world. Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second had to navigate a minefield of (sadly) declining imperial then national power, Cold War politics and (frequently diseased) social movements. The least she deserves is equivalent recognition. I would advocate for much more.
