I remember when this happened. I was only 22 yo and a student at U of M in Michigan. I remember this storm produced a lot of wind and rain for the region. It definitely looked like a mini hurricane on radar. So interesting that Heather covered this event. Great job!

Not only was I alive for this, I was old enough to remember it, as I was 13 at the time. Yes, this really happened. Yes, we consider it a hurricane up here in Michigan. It's about time other areas started acknowledging this really happened.

Suggest you look at the "White Hurricane" of November 8-10, 1913. Winds were of hurricane force (almost category 2) with waves as high as 35 feet on both Huron and Michigan.

Ozone A subtropical storm/cyclone is one that has both tropical and extratropical characteristics. It has a warm core, but the system itself is asymmetric, meaning it can not be considered fully tropical.

More evidence that the Great Lakes should be considered as a different category altogether, and perhaps called something more appropriate like “freshwater seas” and not “lakes”
@hughhaefner5486
@hughhaefner5486 4 жыл бұрын
I was just reading that the word "lake" actually does not apply to the great "lakes", because a lake is defined as a land locked body of water. Out Great Lakes empty into the Atlantic Ocean thereby making these greats not land locked bodies of water. Fascinating documentary that was.
@hughhaefner5486
@hughhaefner5486 4 жыл бұрын
They are inland seas.
@MilwaukeeMax
@MilwaukeeMax 4 жыл бұрын
Hugh Haefner I think it’s worth reconsidering how we classify bodies of water; I believe they technically they are “lakes”, but that classification doesn’t accurately reflect their size, ecology and environmental effect. When a body of water is large enough to create its own weather and, in fact, even produce a hurricane level cyclone like they have, it doesn’t make sense to call them “lakes”. Freshwater sea or inland sea sound more appropriate in lieu of a different nomenclature.
@hughhaefner5486
@hughhaefner5486 4 жыл бұрын
@@MilwaukeeMax that's what I said. They are inland seas technically. I would love to find out who was responsible for calling them lakes when the definitions are clearly different. You are correct and I agree.
