What I love about the off-Broadway version is that I feel like you can just tell how much fun they're having. This production had a budget of $40, a bagel and washing a theatre major's car every week and most of it went to the costumes and it was fun!! Barrett and Jess even said on a live stream that they loved how low-stakes this was. Barret said "we knew weren't doing Shakespeare, we were just giving you something fun to do on a Friday night" (or something). I adore the new versions (I've seen the 21 Haymarket cast twice, the tour twice and the 21 Other Palace cast once) but damn this version has so much heart in it. Also Barrett put her whole Wilbussy into this show. Someone had to say it.

this was so fun! I first watched Heathers when I was 14 and I have a new level of respect now that I'm almost 18. The way it subverts the typical "intelligent but kind introvert girl meets macabre emo nerd loner and they live happily ever after" to the surprisingly more realistic "macabre emo nerd loner is kinda very toxic and will do crazy shit" is GENIUS.
